XP-28 AWB XP Boat
Launched at 21:53 hrs and returned from service at 22:46 hrs.
Service Area: River Stour, Near Sandwich Quay - 4.2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 1, Calm Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.
HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the cabin cruiser "Taz" with four persons, aground in the river Stour. ILB went up river but due to the state of the tide, could not get close to the stranded vessel. In view of there being children on "Taz" it was considered that awaiting the rise of tide would not be advisable and so the XP class lifeboat XP-28 was taken from the AWB and transported, with crew, to the Sandwich Town Quay to launch. "Taz" was located and XP-28 pulled her clear of the ground and then towed her to the Town Quay, the lifeboat proceeding stern first, towing from the bow. With the casualty secure, the lifeboat was recovered, crew and boat returning to the boathouse at 22:46 hrs.
