61 - 13/08/10 report of a raft party in difficulties B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 13:01 hrs and returned from service at 14:43 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the ILB after a report from the Sandwich Harbour Master of a group of children on home made rafts going up river, and seeming in difficulty. On scene ILB found two adults and 10 children each on a home made raft. Three children were advised by ILB crew to put their lifejackets on. ILB escorted the 12 rafts to their landing point and then picked up HMCG mobile unit Officer from across the river to speak to the school party leaders. HMCG Officer was returned to his unit and ILB returned to station. 60 - 11/08/10 report of a swimmer in difficulty B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 12:32 hrs and returned from service at 12:45 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from MoP of a male swimmer in difficulties off Broadstairs Pier. On scene ILB found a youth who had regained the shore safely after swimming from the pier. Advice was given to other youths in the water off the pier end. ILB returned to station. 59 - 11/08/10 report of persons in difficulty on river bank B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 11:51 hrs and returned from service at 12:14 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from the Sandwich Harbour Master that a party of people were on the river bank near Shell Ness and in danger of being cut off by the rising tide. On scene ILB found 9 persons from the Environment Agency and Sea Fisheries doing a walking survey of the river entrance. False alarm with good intent, ILB returned to station. 58 - 08/08/10 motor boat ''P35'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 16:36 hrs and returned from service at 16:55 hrs. The speedboat "P35" called Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance when off number 5 buoy of the Ramsgate buoyed channel.. "P35" with two persons on board, had her petrol engine overheating and feared a fire. ILB was returning to station from a previous incident (see service number 57) and diverted to assist "P35". "P35" was taken in tow in to Ramsgate Harbour. 57 - 08/08/10 report of a child in difficulty B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 16:25 hrs and returned from service at 16:55 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the ILB to a garbled report from a Mop of a small child in the water and drifting out to sea off Viking Bay. On Scene ILB found three children in a small inflatable and MoP who had thought the youngsters were in trouble. The inflatable and all children were safe ashore.ILB returned to station. 56 - 08/08/10 Yacht ''Silver Lady'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 14:48 hrs and returned from service at 16:09 hrs. The motor boat "Silver Lady" called Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance, at a position a mile north of Deal Pier. "Silver Lady" had three persons on board and had run out of fuel. On scene ILB found "Silver Lady" adrift and awaiting assistance. "Silver Lady" was towed in to Ramsgate Harbour. 53 - 25/07/10 yacht ''Moonlight Shadow'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 20:28 hrs and returned from service at 23:50 hrs. Planned launch following services 51 & 52 to the yacht "Moonlight Shadow" aground on the North Sands Head. ILB transferred a tow to the "Moonlight Shadow" and one ILB crew was placed on board the casualty. As the tide rose the AWB put weight on the tow and eventually the yacht came clear of the sands. "Moonlight Shadow" was towed in to the Ramsgate outer harbour and the tow then released. "Moonlight Shadow" made her own way in to the Royal Harbour, now with two lifeboat crew on board assisting. 51 - 25/07/10 yacht ''Moonlight Shadow'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 17:30 hrs and returned from service at 19:04 hrs. The yacht "Moonlight Shadow" called port control by mobile as she could not receive on VHF, requesting assistance after grounding on the North Sands Head. HMCG were advised and the Walmer Lifeboat, then on exercise, was diverted to the incident. Walmer stood by and at 17:20 HMCG requested launch of the Ramsgate ILB to relieve the Walmer Lifeboat. On scene the yacht was fully aground and ILB decided that persons - one lady, two youngsters and a baby should be taken off, by which time AWB had been launched. ILB transferred the persons to the AWB and both lifeboats returned to station, leaving one adult man on board the casualty. A launch was planned to recover the yacht on the rising tide later (see services 53 & 54) 50 - 21/07/10 report of an upturned sailing dinghy B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 20:55 hrs and returned from service at 21:38 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the ILB following reports by MoP of a capsized dinghy with several youngsters in the water and apparently in difficulties off Joss Bay. On scene ILB found three adult leaders with eight Sea Scouts a small RIB, a small outboard dinghy and a capsized sailing dinghy trying to get control of the situation in what were moderate seas for such operation. With some of the youngsters showing signs of tiredness and the fading daylight ILB took six of them on board to land at Broadstairs Harbour. Two Scouts and the leaders were left with the vessels. ILB then returned and took the two remaining Scouts off, putting one ILB crew member on to the RIB. With these last two Scouts landed at Broadstairs, ILB returned and took the RIB and both dinghies, with the three leaders, in tow in to Broadstairs, where they were handed over to the Scouts' base. ILB returned to station. 49 - 20/07/10 angling boat ''Jo-Ann'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 09:46 hrs and returned from service at 10:35 hrs. The single handed angling boat "Jo-Ann" called the Ramsgate Port Control whilst off Broadstairs Harbour, advising that she was unable to start her engine. "Jo-Ann" had anchored and was awaiting any passing craft that would give her a tow back to Ramsgate. However, over half an hour later there had been no passing traffic and in view of the hot weather it was decided to launch the ILB to assist, HMCG being advised. ILB took "Jo-Ann" in tow in to Ramsgate. 48 - 18/07/10 unnamed motor cruiser ''(25ft Bayliner)'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 15:58 hrs and returned from service at 16:50 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the ILB to an unnamed cabin cruiser, disabled by engine failure at the Stour Mouth. ILB took the vessel, with five persons on board, in tow in to Ramsgate. 47 - 18/07/10 yacht ''Coquine'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 11:53 hrs and returned from service at 12:11 hrs. Ramsgate Port Control initiated an ILB launch after a request for assistance from the single handed yacht "Coquine" which had run aground on the Quern Bank. HMCG were advised of the launch and the ILB put a line on "Coquine" and towed her clear of the bank. ILB escorted "Coquine" in to the harbour. 45 - 17/07/10 cabin cruiser ''Tuppence'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 13:13 hrs and returned from service at 13:55 hrs. The cabin cruiser "Tuppence" experienced failure of both engines whilst off North Foreland. "Tuppence", with two persons on board could not raise HMCG by VHF, so called the Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance. ILB launch was initiated with HMCG being advised. ILB towed "Tuppence" in to Ramsgate. 42 - 16/07/10 yacht ''Irish Lady'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 12:57 hrs and returned from service at 14:21 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the yacht "Irish Lady" aground on the east side of the north Goodwin Sands. Both lifeboats were launched. As lifeboats neared the scene the casualty advised that they had driven across clear of the sands and were heading south. On scene it was found that "Irish Lady" was in the bight of the sands (the "lagoon") and was heading for the weather side of the sands to the south. ILB came across the sands from the east and the AWB came up into the lagoon from the south west. An ILB crew member was put on board "Irish Lady" to check the vessel and assist in communication. The yacht was guided clear of the sands, AWB then returning to station whilst ILB escorted "Irish Lady" in to Ramsgate Harbour. 41 - 07/07/10 aid of youths in mud B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 16:31 hrs and returned from service at 17:15 hrs. HMCG requested the launch of the ILB after receiving a call for help from two boys at Shell Ness. The boys had been cycling the shore path and became mired in the mud at Shell Ness. ILB recovered the boys and their bikes back to Ramsgate boathouse. 40 - 04/07/10 motor boat ''Silver Lady'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 15:32 hrs and returned from service at 15:55 hrs. The small motor boat "Silver Lady" with two persons on board called the Ramsgate port control requesting assistance after running aground off the main sands. ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. The windfarm crew boat "Strider" then passing the scene, stood by until the ILB arrived. On scene ILB found "Silver Lady" aground. A tow was passed and ILB towed "Silver Lady" in to Ramsgate Harbour. 38 - 27/06/10 Angling boat ''Marge'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 13:36 hrs and returned from service at 14:40 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the angling boat "Marge" near the Broadstairs Knoll. "Marge", with two persons on board , could not start her engine due to flat batteries. ILB towed "Marge" in to Ramsgate Harbour. 37 - 26/06/10 Angling Boat ''Daktari'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 14:18 hrs and returned from service at 15:10 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the single handed angling boat "Daktari" which was immobilised with engine failure south of the East Brake. ILB took "Daktari" in tow in to Ramsgate Harbour. 36 - 17/06/10 yacht ''Flamingo'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 13:57 hrs and returned from service at 14:15 hrs. The yacht "Flamingo", with two persons, had contacted Port Control advising that her engine had failed but she was making the port under sail. However coming into the turning circle "Flamingo" could not make the Royal Harbour entrance and was in danger of being blown down onto the south breakwater. The Cox'n ordered the launch of the ILB, which took "Flamingo" in tow into the Royal Harbour. 32 - 04/06/10 search for a missing diver B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 18:38 hrs and returned from service at 19:52 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the AWB following a report of a missing diver from the dive boat "Black Cat". Cox'n ordered the launch of the ILB as well. Both lifeboats proceeded to the search area to the NW of the Thanet Offshore Windfarm, where a pilot boat and three windfarm crew vessels had commenced a search. Helicopter Rescue 125 had also been tasked. At 19:14 hrs the helicopter reported sighting the diver in the water and at 19:24 the search was called off, lifeboats returning to station. At 19:30 the helicopter had lifted the diver from the water and was in flight to Manston. 30 - 03/06/10 yacht ''Mister Mist Abit'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 04:02 hrs and returned from service at 04:51 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the yacht "Mister Mist Abit" in Pegwell bay. "Mister Mist Abit" had been aground overnight but on re-floating could not start her engine, and requested assistance. ILB towed "Mister Mist Abit" in to Ramsgate. 27 - 31/05/10 guard vessel ''Gitte'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 18:51 hrs and returned from service at 19:09 hrs. Thanet Wind farm Control advised that the guard vessel "Gitte" with six persons on board had suffered a battery explosion and consequent engine room fire whilst on patrol off the Thanet Wind farm. "Gitte" was under tow towards Ramsgate by the crew vessel "Waterfall" and requested assistance. AWB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. Cox'n instructed the launch of the ILB in addition as at the time the extent of the situation was unknown. AWB met "Waterfall" off the entrance to the Ramsgate Approach Channel and took over the tow, ILB returning to station once the tow was secure. "Gitte" was taken in to berth at No.1 linkspan where the fire brigade were waiting. 22 - 23/05/10 report of persons in trouble on inflatable B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 16:49 hrs and returned from service at 17:26 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report of seven youths on an inflatable drifting out to sea off Joss Bay. On scene ILB crew were able to ascertain from bystanders that there had been four youths on the inflatable, which had been towed ashore by a kayaker. ILB returned to station. 21 - 22/05/10 fishing vessel ''Coptic'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 16:37 hrs and returned from service at 17:09 hrs. The fishing vessel "Coptic" with two persons on board called the Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance whilst in Pegwell Bay. "Coptic" was suffering with engine overheating and could not make way. ILB found "Coptic" still unable to resolve her engine problem and so towed her in to Ramsgate Harbour. 20 - 20/05/10 power boat ''Manolo'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 16:28 hrs and returned from service at 17:20 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the power boat "Manolo", with two persons on board, disabled with engine failure off Broadstairs. ILB took "Manolo" in tow in to Ramsgate Harbour. 19 - 19/05/10 report of persons on an inflatable B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 04:44 hrs and returned from service at 05:15 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from the police of persons on an inflatable off the Western Undercliff. On scene ILB found no police officers present and little information to set a search pattern. In good calm clear weather nothing could be found except the mooring anchor buoys of a cable laying barge, close inshore. Search was discontinued after half an hour and ILB returned to station. 18 - 18/05/10 motor boat ''Easy on the Water'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 18:33 hrs and returned from service at 19:05 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the motor boat "Easy on the Water" with three persons on board. "Easy on the Water" had suffered engine failure off Broadstairs. ILB took "Easy on the Water" in tow in to Ramsgate. 16 - 16/05/10 motor boat ''Flech D'Or'' B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 13:09 hrs and returned from service at 13:28 hrs. The motor boat "Flech D'Or" with two persons on board called the Ramsgate Port Control asking for assistance having broken down off the port and being blown down onto the back of the east pier. ILB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. ILB towed "Flech D'Or" in to Ramsgate Harbour. 05 - 05/03/10 assistance of a person cut off by tide B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 14:12 hrs and returned from service at 14:45 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from MoP of a lady cut off by the tide at Stone Bay. On scene ILB found a lady with a dog cut off by the tide. Two lifeboat crew members went ashore and helped the lady and dog across the rocks to the ILB. Lady and dog were landed at Broadstairs. 03 - 19/02/10 report of youths cut off by tide B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 15:16 hrs and returned from service at 15:41 hrs. HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from MoP of three youths cut off by the tide between Joss and Stone Bays. Whilst the lifeboat was launching the wind farm support vessel "Offshore Performer" closed the shore and was able to confirm that the youths were there, and their exact position. On scene an ILB crew member was landed to speak to the youths, who advised that they were in no difficulty and as the tide fell were intending to walk round the point into Stone Bay beach. ILB returned to station 02 - 11/01/10 report of a person in the water B-765 Bob Turnbull Launched at 23:40 hrs and returned from service at 23:45 hrs. |
