77  -   26/12/09  assistance of  persons marooned on a small boat

Launched at 19:48 hrs and returned from service at 20:09 hrs.
Service Area: Broadstairs Harbour, 2.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 5, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the assistance of persons unable to get ashore from a boat in Broadstairs Harbour. On scene ILB found two teenagers who had been trying to cross the harbour, boat to boat, and had become stranded on one of the craft. The two girls were landed at Broadstairs to waiting HMCG mobile and  Police, for advice and return to their homes.


76  -   10/12/09  assistance of a person in the water

Launched at 23:46 hrs and returned from service at 23:56 hrs.
Service Area: Port Ramsgate number one berth, 0.2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NW force 3, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

Lorry driver confused and in fear of being hijacked had telephoned Kent Police, about 2030, asking for assistance. Police attended but left after a short time thinking they had calmed the man down. Around 2330 still confused and scared for his safety he jumped into the water. Port foreman requested ILB, through the Port Control, as port staff couldn't recover the casualty from the water. ILB launched and proceeded to No.1 berth. Casualty was located around the back of the linkspan amongst the mooring chains and rocks. ILB made way over the chains, having to lift the engines, recovered the casualty from the water and port staff off the rocks.
Casualty landed ashore on Thanet Windfarm pontoon to awaiting Police and ambulance.

Service Area: Near B2 Buoy, 1.9 miles from Station.

The local fishing vessel "Audacious", with two persons on board, called the Port Control requesting assistance after fouling her propeller with a net. With no other vessels in the vicinity and ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. On scene near the B2 buoy ILB took "Audacious" in tow in to the Harbour Authority's boat hoist at Ramsgate.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to assist police dealing with a young man running in and out of the sea at the Western Undercliff. As the ILB left station HMCG advised that the person concerned was now ashore and in care of the police. ILB returned to station.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the local fishing vessel "Sarah Ray", disabled with a fouled propeller near the Brake buoy. ILB towed "Sarah Ray" back in to the boat hoist at Ramsgate Harbour.

Service Area: Off Stone Bay, 3.3 miles from Station.

Upon the advice of Kent Police HMCG requested launch of the ILB to Stone Bay where police were investigating a report of a person seen in distress in the water. ILB commenced a search and at 15:57 with the daylight diminishing  the Cox'n instructed the launch of the AWB. Both lifeboats continued the search but further investigation ashore showed that the original report had been over an hour before the initial ILB launch. At 16:46 with no other  information and nothing found, HMCG called off the search and both boats returned to station.

67  -   16/10/09  yacht  ''Tahula''

Service Area: SE of the Quern Bank, 1.3 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NW force 5, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

The yacht "Tahula", with two persons on board, called the port control requesting assistance as her engine had failed and she could not make the harbour against the prevailing wind and tide. With no other vessels in the vicinity an ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. ILB towed "Tahula" in to the Royal Harbour.


66  -   13/10/09  motor boat  ''Lady Jane''

Launched at 23:50 hrs and returned from service at 00:06 hrs.
Service Area: Near No.5 Channel Buoy, 0.36 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind Calm force 0, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a telephone call from a MoP (fishing from Ramsgate East Pier) reporting a small boat drifting without lights off the pier. ILB launch was initiated and at the same time an inbound ferry was entering, and committed to, the Ramsgate approach channel. ILB arrived on scene as the ferry passed inwards through the breakwaters and found the "Lady Jane" ,with two persons on board, had drifted into the middle of the channel between the breakwaters and No.5 buoy. "Lady Jane" had been unable to start either of her engines and was drifting without lights. ILB took "Lady Jane" in tow in to Ramsgate.

Service Area: south of No.2 channel buoy, 1.4 miles from Station.

The motor boat "Sea Spice", with two persons on board called the port control requesting assistance after suffering machinery failure when just south of the approach channel. HMCG were advised and an ILB launch was initiated. ILB found "Sea Spice" at anchor ½ mile south of No.2 buoy, trying to re-start her engine. ILB took "Sea Spice" in tow in to the Royal Harbour.

Service Area: Pegwell Bay, 1.2 miles from Station.

The local fishing vessel "Fair Trial", with one person on board, called the Ramsgate port Control requesting assistance after breaking down in Pegwell Bay. HMCG were advised and an ILB launch initiated. ILB found "Fair Trial" at anchor and endeavouring to start her engine. ILB took "Fair Trial" in tow in to Ramsgate Harbour.


62  -   09/09/09  assistance of  children tombstoning

Launched at 15:23 hrs and returned from service at 15:28 hrs.
Service Area: Seaward side of East Pier, 0.2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 5, Moderate Seas, Moderate Swell, Very Good Visibility.

The Skipper of local fishing vessel "Sarah Louisa" returning to port saw a crowd on the East Pier, looking into the sea. "Sarah Louisa" closed the pier and saw two boys in the sea, they having jumped from the pier. The Skipper of  "Sarah Louisa"  (a lifeboat crew member) immediately called the Port Control requesting launch of the ILB, as he realised that to take his own vessel into the confused seas, reflected swell and shallow water in the area would inevitably compound an already serious situation. On scene ILB found that someone had thrown a lifebuoy from the pier and that one of the boys was holding on to the lifebuoy and the other was holding on to him. The boys were taken on to the ILB and landed at the boathouse where their condition gave some concern. In view of this an ambulance was called and they were taken to hospital for check ups.


60  -   31/08/09  report of a  person cut off by tide

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from Kent Police that they were following up reports of a man calling for help from the beach. On scene, ILB found that the Police had reached the person concerned and due to other issues had taken a man into custody. ILB returned to station.

Service Area: Near No.6 channel buoy, 0.4 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 4, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

The yacht "Sequel", with 4 persons on board called the Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance after suffering engine failure close to the entrance of Ramsgate Harbour. ILB launch was initiated, with HMCG being advised. On scene, ILB found "Sequel" unable to sail to the entrance against the south-going current. ILB took "Sequel" in tow into the harbour.


57  -   24/08/09  report of children cut off by tide

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from MoP of two children cut off by the tide near Stone Bay. Shortly after the ILB launched they were advised that Beach Lifeguards had reached the children and taken them to the beach, but HMCG requested the ILB to continue and pick up an inflatable dinghy which the children had been using and was drifting out to sea. ILB recovered the dinghy and returned to station.


55  -   23/08/09  search for possible persons in the water

Service Area: Port Ramsgate South Breakwater, .3 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind S force 4, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Very Good Visibility.

ILB had stood down from the previous service when HMCG requested launch again, as Kent Police enquiry had indicated that there might still be one or more persons who could have gone into the water from the Port Ramsgate security area. ILB launched to commence search along the inside of the South Breakwater and at the same time the Cox'n ordered the launch of the AWB to search on the seaward side of the Breakwater, and up-tide from there. Searches found nothing and HMCG called off the operation at 13:27 hrs, lifeboats then returning to station.


54  -   23/08/09  search for possible person in water

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from Kent Police that a person being sought in the Port Ramsgate security area might have gone in to the sea from the south breakwater. ILB launched and as she commenced a search in the turning circle she was advised to return to station as the situation had been resolved. (The Lifeboat launched again a few minutes later see service no 55).


53  -   22/08/09  motor boat  ''Harmony''

The motor boat "Harmony" with five persons on board called the Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance after having engine failure whilst in the vicinity of the B2 buoy. ILB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. On scene the ILB found "Harmony" adrift and awaiting assistance. ILB took "Harmony" in tow in to Ramsgate Harbour.


52  -   21/08/09  assistance of a  Kite Surfer

Service Area: Pegwell Bay, 1.8 miles from Station.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB after a report from MoP of a kite surfer in difficulty in Pegwell Bay. On scene ILB found the kite surfer in the water and unable to make the shore. ILB took the surfer and his equipment on board and landed them at the launch site in the bay.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the speedboat "Thunder 2" broken down off Viking Bay (Broadstairs). On scene ILB found the speedboat drifting and awaiting assistance. ILB towed "Thunder 2" in to Ramsgate.


47  -   11/08/09  search for a  missing diver

HMCG requested launch of both lifeboats to search for a diver reported missing by the dive boat "Snowstar". Both lifeboats launched but shortly after the ILB arrived on scene, it was confirmed that the diver had been located and was safe and well. The lifeboats returned to station.

The yacht "Tyro", with four persons on board called the Port Control requesting assistance following engine failure near No.3 buoy. In the prevailing light wind, "Tyro" could not make headway against the north-going tide. ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. ILB towed "Tyro" in to Ramsgate Royal Harbour.

Service Area: Near No.5 channel buoy, 0.4 miles from Station.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to an unnamed speedboat, with four persons on board, disabled with engine failure near No.5 buoy. ILB took the speedboat in tow to the slipway at the Western Undercilff.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the yacht "Aliva", broken down off North Foreland. On scene ILB found "Aliva" adrift and unable to make headway in the prevailing light winds. ILB took "Aliva" in tow in to Ramsgate.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following mobile phone reports of two boys stranded on the south side of the Stour entrance. On scene ILB found the two youngsters who had been walking from Deal to Ramsgate. They were taking on board the ILB (with their skate boards) and landed at the Ramsgate Boathouse

Ramsgate main beach lifeguards called the Port Control asking for assistance when their RIB on patrol off the beach suffered engine failure and was being blown along shore out to sea by the prevailing wind. ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised, ILB towed the RIB in to Ramsgate Harbour.

34  -   13/07/09  report of an inflatable dinghy in trouble

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from MoP of persons adrift in a small inflatable dinghy off the Granville Theatre. On scene, ILB found three youths with the inflatable who said that they were OK. ILB crew advised them to return to shore, but they declined this advice and any assistance. ILB returned to station.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from MoP of six youngsters missing on a bike ride in the Stour Area. Walmer Lifeboat, HMCG mobile units and HMCG aircraft were also tasked. ILB proceeded up river and found six youths with bicycles stranded on the Deal side of the river opposite Pfizer's sports ground. In view of the falling tide the ILB helmsman was concerned as to how long the lifeboat could remain on scene, and all six boys, with their bicycles, were taken on board the ILB as quickly as possible. ILB returned to Ramsgate and landed the boys at the boathouse.


32  -   09/07/09  yacht  ''Jest''

Service Area: Near No.4 buoy, 0.7 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WNW force 5, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Jest" called the Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance when her steering failed as she was approaching Ramsgate. ILB launched and on scene found "Jest" had lowered her sails but was unable to hold a course. "Jest" was taken in tow in to Ramsgate, where it was found that she had suffered a broken rudder.


30  -   05/07/09  yacht  ''Arianwen''

Service Area: Broadstairs Knolls, 1.6 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SSW force 4, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the yacht "Arianwen", broken down and with four persons on board at the Broadstairs Knolls. On scene, ILB found "Arianwen" having run out of fuel. "Arianwen" was towed in to Ramsgate.


29  -   05/07/09  unnamed  speedboat

Launched at 11:25 hrs and returned from service at 11:45 hrs.
Service Area: Off Kingsgate Bay, 3.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 3, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

A large speedboat had broken down off Kingsgate Bay and was under tow by two small leisure craft, who were holding the speed boat off shore, but unable to make any progress with a tow. ILB was off Broadstairs attending the Broadstairs Sea Sunday event, when she overheard VHF traffic between the tow and HMCG. ILB proceeded, at the same time offering her service to HMCG. On scene, ILB took over the tow. At first progress was very slow due to water in the speedboat, but as speed increased and the speedboat self-bailed, the tow became manageable, in fact increasing to 9 knots. The speed boat was towed in to her base at the Palm Bay water ski club. ILB returned to the Broadstairs Sea Sunday event.


28  -   04/07/09  report of  children adrift in small dinghy

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from a MoP of 3 children in a small inflatable dinghy drifting half a mile off Louisa Bay. On scene, ILB found that the dinghy and children were safe ashore and that they had not been in any distress. Safety advice was given.


24  -   23/06/09  sailing yacht  ''Kelloggs''

Service Area: Off Ramsgate Main Beach, 1.6 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind ENE force 2, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Kelloggs" approaching the port, called the Port Control requesting assistance after an ingress of water following a fractured exhaust pipe. ILB launch was in initiated, HMCG being advised. ILB found "Kelloggs" with engine stopped and controlling the water ingress and took her in tow in to Ramsgate Harbour.


21 - 13/06/09 yacht ''Andrella''

Service Area: Just off South Breakwater, 0.24 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SSE force 2, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Andrella" called the port control requesting assistance after suffering engine failure off the South Breakwater. ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. The outbound local fishing vessel "Our Kate" diverted and took a line from "Andrella", keeping her off the breakwater until the ILB was on scene. ILB took over the tow from "Our Kate" and towed "Andrella" in to the harbour.


20 - 12/06/09 fishing vessel ''Audacious''

The local fishing vessel "Audacious", with two persons, called the Port Control requesting assistance having fouled her propeller with fishing gear. ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. ILB towed "Audacious" back in to Ramsgate.


19 - 01/06/09 motor boat ''Kingfisher''

Launched at 16:42 hrs and returned from service at 17:20 hrs.
Service Area: Stour Mouth, 2.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NNE force 6, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the motor boat "Kingfisher" with two persons on board. "Kingfisher" asked for help having run aground leaving the Stour from Sandwich. One of her crew had entered the water to attempt to clear a fouled anchor. HMCG gave appropriate advice. ILB found "Kingfisher" afloat, but unsure of her position, and attempted to guide her into safe water and up river. However, her crew had some difficulty in  following the advice but eventually were guided far enough up river to be safe. ILB confirmed with casualty crew that they were OK and returned to station.


18 - 24/05/09 report of an upturned kayak

Service Area: Nr Gull Stream buoy, 3.1 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 4, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB after a yacht, "Border Collie", reported passing what looked like a blue upturned kayak, near the Gull Stream buoy. On scene, nothing was found and a search was commenced. At 20:23 ILB found a 3ft blue balloon (Thomas the Tank Engine design) in the water. Search continued but shortly afterwards ILB was instructed to recover the balloon and return to station. ILB crew were asked to check with "Border Collie" to confirm this could have been what they saw. This was done, and confirmation received.


11 - 07/05/09 yacht ''Dos Mescalito''

Launched at 15:45 hrs and returned from service at 17:18 hrs.
Service Area: Near Stour Entrance, 1.6 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 4, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Dos Mescalito" with two persons called the Port Control requesting assistance after grounding in Pegwell Bay. ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. On scene ILB found "Dos Mescalito" aground on the falling tide. A long tow line was passed by the ILB but when this proved ineffective an AWB launch was requested by the ILB helmsman. AWB passed a tow to the casualty vessel and towed her off the ground and then in to Ramsgate harbour.


10 - 04/05/09 Assistance of Jet ski and dinghy

Service Area: SW of Port Ramsgate, 0.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 3, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the report of a broken down Jet-Ski to the south of the Port Ramsgate breakwaters. ON scene ILB found the broken down jet ski and a small inflatable dinghy trying to assist. ILB towed the craft, with four persons on board them, to the Western Undercliff.


09 - 29/04/09 report of children on an inflatable dinghy

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a 999 call advising of a person on a small children's inflatable off the Ramsgate Beach and waving. ILB launched and on scene found the inflatable being taken ashore by three teenage males. ILB confirmed that this was the inflatable in question and that there had been no distress situation. ILB returned to station. False alarm with good intent.


08 - 26/04/09 report of a speedboat aground

Launched at 17:32 hrs and returned from service at 17:45 hrs.

Weather: Wind SE force 4, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from MoP of a boat aground in Pegwell Bay. As ILB launched, HMCG advised that the casualty was a speed boat and the owner had been in touch saying that no assistance was required, the boat having been deliberately beached. ILB continued to scene to check, and then returned to station.


06 - 22/04/09 Angling Boat ''You Beauty''

Launched at 18:42 hrs and returned from service at 19:20 hrs.
Service Area: Dumpton Gap, 1.7 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind Calm, Calm Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the small angling boat "You Beauty" with one person on board and disabled with engine failure off Dumpton Gap. ILB found "You Beauty" anchored and attempting to start her engine. "You Beauty" was towed in to her berth in Ramsgate Harbour.
