87 - 13/10/08 Motor boat ''Frederic'' 

(Relief  ILB) B-753 City of Bradford V  

Launched at 06:54 hrs and returned from service at 07:42 hrs.
Service Area: Broadstairs - off Eastern Esplanade, 2.23 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind CALM force 0, Calm Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from a MoP of seeing a small cabin boat grounding off the Broadstairs Eastern Esplanade and the boat's crew abandoning the craft and running ashore. On arrival ILB found the motor boat "Frederic" aground off the Esplanade, with no persons on board. Kent Police were in attendance and asked the ILB to tow the "Frederic" in to Ramsgate as they were connecting the craft with the arrest of persons in Broadstairs shortly after the grounding.
ILB towed "Frederic" in to Ramsgate where it was moored at the boathouse until police arrived to take charge of the craft.


84 - 13/09/08 Fishing Vessel ''Venture II''

Service Area: West Quern, 0.9 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind Calm force 0, Calm Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The local fishing vessel "Venture II", with one person on board, called Ramsgate Port Control on VHF Ch14 requesting assistance after being disabled by fishing gear becoming foul of her propeller. An ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. On scene, a tow was passed and the ILB towed "Venture II" in to the Harbour Authority's boat hoist, where she was lifted out.


80 - 31/08/08 Motor boat ''Snow Goose''

Service Area: NNE of  North Foreland, 4.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SSW force 4, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The small angling motor boat "Snow Goose" called the Port Control requesting assistance when she could not start her engine due to a flat battery. "Snow Goose" was to the NNE of North Foreland with two persons on board. With no commercial traffic in the area, HMCG were advised and an ILB launch initiated. ILB towed "Snow Goose" back into her berth in Ramsgate Harbour.


79 - 29/08/08 Report of a red flare

Service Area: Pegwell Bay, 1.8 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind Calm, Calm Seas, Nil Swell, Fair Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from a MoP of sighting a red flare in the Pegwell Bay area. ILB commenced a search and during this investigations by HMCG indicated that the flare had been fired from ashore. Search was called off once this was confirmed.


77 - 28/08/08 Report of a windsurfer in difficulties

Service Area: Off Ramsgate Main Beach, 0.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WSW force 2, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB after a report from a MoP of a windsurfer in difficulty off Ramsgate main beach. On scene ILB found only one windsurfer who was not in distress. With no further persons in the area ILB returned to station. Call noted as false alarm with good intent.


76 - 26/08/08 Speed Boat ''Livewire 1''

Launched at 13:03 hrs and returned from service at 13:26 hrs.
Service Area: NE of Ramsgate Harbour, 0.75 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WSW force 3, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the speed boat "Livewire 1" with four persons on board, adrift NE of Ramsgate Harbour. ILB found "Livewire 1" suffering from engine failure and towed the speed boat in to Ramsgate Harbour.


75 - 25/08/08 Motor Boat ''Merit''

Service Area: ¼ mile off Broadstairs, 2.4 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 4, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The motor boat "Merit" with two persons called the port control requesting assistance after suffering an engine failure when ¼ mile NE of Broadstairs Harbour. After advising HMCG an ILB launch was initiated. ILB towed "Merit" in to Ramsgate Harbour.


74 - 20/08/08 report of a person on southern breakwater

Launched at 18:58 hrs and returned from service at 19:05 hrs.
Service Area: South Breakwater, 0.3 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 5, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Very Good Visibility.

A man walked into the boathouse and said that his friend had been windsurfing and had been blown ashore and was now stranded on the south breakwater of the port turning circle. Sufficient crew and shore helpers were already in the boathouse and an ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised.
ILB found the man on the breakwater in good spirit and in no immediate danger, but unable to move due to occasional seas breaking, spray, and the slippery nature of the rocks.
ILB took the windsurfer and his board and equipment onto the lifeboat and landed him ashore at the boathouse.


72 - 15/08/08 Yacht ''Kes''

Launched at 18:50 hrs and returned from service at 19:36 hrs.
Service Area: Quern Bank, 0.7 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WSW force 4, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The port control observed the yacht "Kes", with one person on board heading for the Quern bank, but could not contact her on VHF. The yacht ran aground at speed (under motor and sail) on the bank and was being driven on by the wind and lifting in the moderate sea and swell. Port Control advised the Launching Authority and an ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being informed. ILB came up with "Kes" aground on the Quern being driven across by the wind rolling heavily and pounding on the bank. A tow was passed and "Kes" towed off the bank and  escorted in to her berth in Ramsgate Harbour.


71 - 15/08/08 investigation of an object in the water

Launched at 01:15 hrs and returned from service at 01:24 hrs.
Service Area: Western Undercliff, 0.66 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind W force 2, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Very Good Visibility.

Dover Coastguard requested launch of ILB to investigate an object in the water, approximately 40 yards offshore from Western Undercliff. Margate Coastguard Mobile were on scene and unable to identify the object from the shore. When ILB reached the area the object was found to be a very old inflatable dinghy. ILB returned to station with dinghy.


69 - 12/08/08 search for ''possible missing persons''

Launched at 05:30 hrs and returned from service at 08:15 hrs.
Service Area: North Foreland to Epple Bay, 3.2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SE force 5, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

Police were investigating the finding of two piles of clothes on beaches at Margate, late p.m.of the 11th August. Police requested help from HMCG and at first light HMCG requested launch of both lifeboats, along with both Margate Lifeboat, to commence a search. The search was conducted from north east of North Foreland, both close inshore and up to 1½ miles offshore, as far west as Epple Bay. With nothing found and no further information, at 07:50 HMCG advised both Ramsgate Lifeboats to return to station, conducting a coastline search en route.
{later that morning, about 12:00, a man walked in to Margate Police Station saying he had lost two sets of clothes whilst on the beach at night doing yoga exercises.}


67 - 11/08/08 angling boat ''Margie''

Launched at 11:30 hrs and returned from service at 11:57 hrs.
Service Area: Off King George Park, 0.9 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 5, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

ILB had launched on engine trials following changing one of her engines. Whilst passing an angling boat off King George Park, persons were seen on deck waving towards the lifeboat. ILB diverted to investigate and found the angling boat "Margie" with five persons on board adrift and requesting assistance after suffering a drive failure. ILB took "Margie" in tow, HMCG being advised, and brought her in to a berth in Ramsgate Harbour.


66 - 10/08/08 assistance of persons on vehicles in the mud

Service Area: Sandwich Bay, 2.3 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 6, Moderate Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG mobile team were dealing with an incident in which two 4x4 vehicles were stranded in the mud on the north side of the Stour estuary. The coastguard became concerned as to the number of persons going into the water, in adverse conditions and a rising tide, attempting to recover the vehicles, and so an ILB launch was requested to stand by at the scene. On arrival the ILB found a number of persons in the water around the vehicles, but as the tide was rising rapidly the attempt was abandoned. With all persons out of the water and the vehicles being submerged by the tide, ILB returned to station.


64 - 08/08/08 assistance of a Swimmer

Service Area: Western Undercliff, 0.6 miles from Station.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to assist in dealing with the report of a suicidal swimmer in the water off the Western Undercliff. ILB located the swimmer, who was taken on board the lifeboat without resistance. Swimmer was landed at the Lifeboat Station, with Police Officers in attendance.


63 - 01/08/08 report of 2 canoes in difficulty

Service Area: Pegwell Bay, 1.77 miles from Station.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a call from a MoP that two canoes were in difficulty in rough seas off the river Stour mouth. On scene the ILB found that the canoes had drifted out into Pegwell Bay and were unable to make way to shore in the prevailing conditions. ILB took the canoeists into the lifeboat and the canoes in tow. Canoes and canoeists were taken into harbour and landed at the Lifeboat Station.


62 - 29/07/08 Fishing vessel ''Audacious''

The local fishing vessel "Audacious", with two persons on board called Ramsgate Port control  requesting assistance having had engine failure whilst fishing in Pegwell Bay. With no other vessels in the vicinity an ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. ILB came up with "Audacious" adrift, and trying to trace a fault in her fuel system. ILB towed "Audacious" in to her berth in Ramsgate Harbour.


61 - 26/07/08 Cabin Cruiser ''Our Kid''

Service Area: West Quern Bank, 0.77 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 2, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Fair Visibility.

The cabin cruiser "Our Kid" with two persons on board, called the port control requesting assistance after an electrical problem caused total engine failure. "Our Kid" was drifting up over the Quern Bank and, with no other vessels in the vicinity, an ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. The ILB found "Our Kid" drifting without power and took her in tow into a berth in the eastern marina.


60 - 25/07/08 Yacht ''Kes''

Service Area: North of No.1 buoy, 1.4 miles from Station.

The yacht "Kes" with one person on board called the Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance after suffering engine failure off No.1 buoy. With no other craft in the vicinity and "Kes" being set towards the main beach, an ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised.. ILB towed "Kes" in to her berth in Ramsgate Harbour


59 - 25/07/08 Report of children in difficulties

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a call from a MoP reporting 3 children in difficulties swimming round the Ramsgate Port rear lead beacon off the Western Undercliff beach. On scene, ILB found that the children were safely ashore. ILB returned to station.


58 - 23/07/08 report of swimmers in difficulty

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a 999 call from a MoP reporting two swimmers in the water in difficulties off Broadstairs pier. On scene ILB found the two children ashore, near the East Cliff, both well. Call logged as false alarm with good intent.


54 - 15/07/08 Motor Boat ''White Rose''

Service Area: Outside harbour entrance, 0.1 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 4, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The motor boat "White Rose" with two persons, called the Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance after having engine failure just outside the harbour entrance. "White Rose" was being set rapidly to the north towards the main sands by the tide. ILB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. ILB towed "White Rose" back in to her berth in Ramsgate Harbour.


51 - 12/07/08 Report of Children drifting out to sea

Service Area: Off Stone Bay, 2.2  miles from Station.
Weather: Wind W force 4, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Very Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a telephone call from a MoP advising five teenagers on two inflatable's and one surfboard were drifting out to sea off Stone Bay. On scene ILB found the youngsters in no distress and safely paddling now close in to shore. ILB crew gave a few words of advice and then returned to station. Call logged as false alarm with good intent.


48 - 11/07/08 assistance of capsized kayaks

Launched at 13:08 hrs and returned from service at 13:51 hrs.
Service Area: Off Broadstairs Harbour, 2.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 7, Rough Seas, Moderate Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB after a report from a MoP of  two kayaks capsized off Broadstairs Harbour, with both kayaks and one person recovered, but other person still in the water with a paddle. On scene ILB commenced a search from Stone Bay towards Broadstairs and requested launch of the AWB to widen the search area. AWB launched and as she arrived on scene it was confirmed that the missing person had been found on Broadstairs beach, exhausted and in care of the beach inspector. Both lifeboats returned to station.


46 - 10/07/08 unnamed small power boat 

B-765 Bob Turnbull  

Launched at 19:12 hrs and returned from service at 19:26 hrs.
Service Area: Inside breakwaters, 0.05 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 5, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The port control officer observed a small power boat which had just left the harbour, in difficulties and filling with water just outside the Royal Harbour entrance, inside the north breakwater. Port control initiated an ILB launch, HMCG being advised. On scene, ILB found the power boat had sunk, with her bow just above the water. The single occupant was taken on board from the water and found to be well and suffering no injury. ILB connected a tow to the bow of the speedboat to keep it off the breakwater, but could not tow it in the prevailing conditions. In view of the need to keep the sunken vessel from becoming an underwater hazard, and with no commercial help immediately available, an AWB launch was initiated, HMCG again being advised. AWB launched and took over the tow of the semi-submerged speedboat from the ILB. The speedboat was towed into the Royal Harbour and placed safely onto the eastern hard, ILB escorting the tow. The speedboat owner was landed after the AWB tow was completed.


45 - 08/07/08 Yacht ''Lincelles''

Launched at 17:15 hrs and returned from service at 17:28 hrs.
Service Area: Off Main Sands, 1.6 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 5, Rough Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The single handed yacht "Lincelles" had sailed from Ramsgate. Shortly afterwards it was observed by the Second Cox'n from the boathouse to be drifting with the tide with it's foresail in the water and with no person visible on deck. ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised and at the same time attempts to raise the vessel by VHF were unsuccessful. ILB came alongside "Lincelles" which was across tide and drifting, still with her foresail in the water. The elderly occupant appeared and spoke to the ILB crew and was adamant that he required no assistance and was on passage to Dunkirk. After advising HMCG, ILB returned to station. "Lincelles" eventually raised some sail and proceeded clear of land.


44 - 05/07/08 report of a ''dog cut off by tide''

Launched at 12:53 hrs and returned from service at 13:53 hrs.
Service Area: Stone Bay, 2.25 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SSE force 5, Rough Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

A local fishing vessel at sea telephoned the station advising that they had seen a large dog on the beach at Stone Bay, cut off by the tide and in apparent distress. The cox'n advised HMCG and then decided to launch the ILB to investigate and render assistance if needed. On scene ILB landed two crew but the dog escaped attempts to catch it. It was established that the dog did, in fact, have access to the steps from the beach and was not at risk from the tide. There was no sign of an owner and so HMCG were advised, and ILB returned to station.


43 - 29/06/08 Yacht ''Issonian'' 

B-765 Bob Turnbull  

Launched at 17:08 hrs and returned from service at 17:28 hrs.
Service Area: South Side of the Harbour Entrance, 0.39 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SSW force 6, Rough Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The local yacht "Issonian" called the Port Control on VHF 14 asking for assistance after his engine had broken down and in the prevailing conditions he was unable to make the harbour entrance under sail alone. ILB launch was initiated, with HMCG being advised. On scene, ILB found "Issonian" at anchor. It was found that "Issonian's" anchor winch was non-operational and that she could not recover her anchor by hand. The ILB then took the "Issonian's" anchor cable and steamed off with it up wind and succeeded in breaking the anchor out from the ground. Anchor was then recovered to the yacht and the ILB took "Issonian" in tow into a berth in Ramsgate Harbour.


40 - 24/06/08 report of a person being swept out to sea

Service Area: Seaward side of East Pier, 0.2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 5, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

“HMCG requested launch of the ILB after a 999 call from a MoP of a person being swept out to sea behind the East Pier at Ramsgate. On scene ILB found a young person in difficulty, afloat and wearing a lifebuoy, being pushed against the pier wall in the confused water behind the pier. The girl was taken on board the ILB and landed to a waiting Ambulance, Police and Coastguard Unit at the Dover Steps inside Ramsgate Harbour.

Two swimmers had been involved - a 12 year old boy had been swimming with the girl when he realised that the tide was carrying them off shore. He called out a warning and the girl responded, but was unable to swim in against the tide. The boy managed to regain the beach and telephoned the coastguard. Meanwhile, a man and his daughter on the East Pier threw a lifebuoy to the girl in the water. She got hold of the lifebuoy, put it around herself, and was in that situation when the ILB arrived.”


39 - 20/06/08 Report of persons cut off by the tide.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report of two persons cut off by the tide at Stone Bay, Broadstairs. On scene, ILB found no one in the area. Further local search was carried out as instructed by HMCG, but no sign of persons or witnesses were found. Search called off at 13:12. ILB returned to station. Call logged as false alarm with good intent.


37 - 12/06/08 Yacht ''Ghyslene'' 

B-765 Bob Turnbull  

Launched at 22:18 hrs and returned from service at 22:48 hrs.
Service Area: Near Winterstoke Beacon, 0.7 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NW force 4, Slight Seas, Moderate Swell, Fair Visibility.

The yacht "Ghyslene", with 4 persons, called Ramsgate Port Control asking for assistance. "Ghyslene" had suffered engine failure and was sailing at four knots towards Ramsgate, but was concerned that she might not be able to drop her sails and make a safe entry into the harbour, without her engine. HMCG were advised of the situation. No other vessels were in the vicinity. It was decided to launch the ILB to assist when "Ghyslene" was nearer the harbour entrance. ILB launched and met "Ghyslene" north of the entrance and took her in tow to a berth in Ramsgate.


36 - 08/06/08 Assistance of a jet skier

Service Area: Off Broadstairs Harbour, 2.25 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 2, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB after a report from a MoP of a jet ski broken down and persons waving for help about half a mile off Broadstairs. On scene ILB found the jet ski had broken down due to an electrical fault. The two persons remain on the jet-ski as ILB towed it back to the launch site at Ramsgate Eastern Undercliff.


35 - 08/06/08 Report of a person collapsed at water's edge

Launched at 11:35 hrs and returned from service at 12:20 hrs.
Service Area: Pegwell Bay, 1.8 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NW force 1, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from a MoP that a man had collapsed at the water's edge in Pegwell Bay. The information was not certain and a search was commenced, both off shore and along the shoreline, two ILB crew members landing for this purpose. Some old fishing nets were found and the search was called off  at 12:18 hrs with nothing found and no definite information. Call logged as false alarm with good intent.


33 - 04/06/08 Motor Boat ''Lady Jayne''

Launched at 18:11 hrs and returned from service at 19:02 hrs.
Service Area: Near S Brake Buoy, 3.8 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SE force 3, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

The motorboat "Lady Jayne", with one person, called the port control requesting assistance when unable to re-start her engine to return from an angling trip. HMCG were advised and as there were no other craft in the vicinity an ILB launch was initiated. ILB found "Lady Jayne" near the S Brake buoy and towed her in to Ramsgate. The engine problem was later found to be a flat battery.


32 - 01/06/08 Yacht ''Marleen'' 

B-765 Bob Turnbull  

Launched at 16:03 hrs and returned from service at 16:14 hrs.
Service Area: Quern Bank, 0.67 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind Calm force 0, Calm Seas, Low Swell, Poor Visibility.

Ramsgate Port Control Officer observed the yacht "Marleen", approaching the port, go aground on the Quern Bank at full speed. On a falling tide, with a low swell over the bank, an ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. On scene, ILB found the yacht, with one person on board, still aground. A tow was passed and the ILB towed "Marleen" in to a berth in Ramsgate Harbour.


30 - 30/05/08 Yacht ''Dreamcatcher''

Launched at 13:25 hrs and returned from service at 14:49 hrs.
Service Area: Near NE Goodwin, 5.1 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WNW force 4, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The Yacht "Dreamcatcher", with two persons called the Port Control asking for assistance after having his propeller fouled by fishing nets. In the light winds, and being hampered by the nets, "Dreamcatcher" could not make Ramsgate. ILB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. ILB towed "Dreamcatcher" in to Ramsgate.


25 - 14/05/08 Yacht ''Spirit''

Service Area: Goodwin Knoll, 5.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 6, Rough Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the yacht "Spirit" with  four persons on board; aground on the east side of the North Goodwins. "Spirit" had asked for urgent assistance and in view of the prevailing weather and tide, helicopter Rescue 125 was also tasked. Both lifeboats were launched. On scene it was found that "Spirit " was being held aground by the weather and there was insufficient water for either lifeboat to close the casualty. ILB made two approaches but attempts to pass a line were unsuccessful as the lifeboat could not get close enough. A rocket line was fired but this attempt failed when the line fouled high in the  yacht's rigging and then fell clear as the yacht rolled. The Helicopter Rescue 125 then passed a line from the lifeboat to the yacht and using that a tow was connected. AWB was then able to tow "Spirit" off the sands and into Ramsgate Harbour.


23 - 11/05/08 motor boat ''Ready Freddy''

Service Area: Off Dumpton Gap, 1.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 4, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the small angling vessel "Ready Freddy" with three persons on board. "Ready Freddy" was disabled off Dumpton Gap, with lobster pots foul of her propeller. On scene, one of the lifeboat crew entered the water and cut away the gear fouling the propeller. The ILB then towed "Ready Freddy" in to Ramsgate harbour.


22 - 09/05/08 Cabin Cruiser ''Sea Cloud''

Service Area: Pegwell Bay, 2.3 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind E force 3, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the cabin cruiser "Sea Cloud" with two persons on board and which was aground in the entrance to the river Stour, having sailed from Sandwich. On arrival on scene ILB found "Sea Cloud" had re floated under her own power and was safely under way. "Sea Cloud" made her own way into Ramsgate Harbour. ILB returned to station


21 - 05/05/08 Motor Boat ''Carcharin''

Launched at 18:19 hrs and returned from service at 18:55 hrs.
Service Area: Cross Ledge, 1.68 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 4, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The small angling boat "Carcharin", with three persons, called the port control requesting assistance after being unable to start her engine after fishing on the Cross Ledge. With no other craft in the vicinity it was decided to launch the ILB. On arrival it was found that "Carcharin" had in fact run out of fuel. ILB towed the vessel in to Ramsgate.


20 - 05/05/08 Motor Boat ''Kris''

Launched at 11:21 hrs and returned from service at 11:47 hrs.
Service Area: Off Main Sands, 1.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 3, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

The motor boat "Kris", with two persons on board called the port control requesting assistance after suffering engine failure whilst off the Ramsgate main sands. With no other craft immediately close and the north going current setting towards the sands ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. The ILB took "Kris" in  tow in to Ramsgate harbour.


19 - 04/05/08 Motor Boat ''Secret''

Launched at 15:02 hrs and returned from service at 15:23 hrs.
Service Area: Outside South Breakwater,  miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 2, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The motor boat "Secret", with four persons, telephoned the port control requesting assistance. "Secret" was anchored off the south of the harbour entrance and had been angling but when starting to get under way she had lost her engine and all electrical power. The vessel was in no immediate danger but after consideration an ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. ILB towed "Secret" in to Ramsgate.


18 - 03/05/08 Motor Boat ''Chapps II''

Launched at 17:12 hrs and returned from service at 17:49 hrs.
Service Area: Dumpton Gap, 1.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 4, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the motor boat "Chapps II", with three persons, which had requested assistance after suffering engine failure off Dumpton Gap and was being set towards the rocks off the gap. ILB got a tow line onto "Chapps II" and towed her clear of the rocks and as her engine could not be re-started ILB towed the vessel in to Ramsgate harbour.


16 - 01/05/08 Yacht ''Tien Mou''

Launched at 14:04 hrs and returned from service at 14:15 hrs.
Service Area: Near No 6 Channel buoy, 0.4 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 6, Rough Seas, Nil Swell, Very Good Visibility.

The yacht "Tien Mou" called the Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance after starting to take water. The launch of both lifeboats was initiated and HMCG advised. ILB proceeded to the "Tien Mou" to render quickest possible aid, with the AWB also launching in case salvage pumps were required. On arrival on scene ILB found the situation stable, with "Tien Mou" controlling the water ingress. ILB towed "Tien Mou" into the Harbour Authority's boat hoist, where she was lifted out.


15 - 26/04/08 Report of a  jet skier in difficulties

Launched at 16:54 hrs and returned from service at 17:02 hrs.
Service Area: Off Main Beach, 0.4 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SE force 3, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a telephoned report of a jet skier off his ski and in difficulty off the main beach. On arrival ILB found jet skier had been able to walk to the beach and the jet ski had been recovered. ILB returned to station.


13 - 14/04/08 Motor boat ''Rebecca Louise''

Launched at 11:07 hrs and returned from service at 11:38 hrs.
Service Area: Stour Mouth, 2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NW force 4, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Very Good Visibility.

Cox'n received a telephone call from a harbour business who had had a man come into their shop worried about the safety of his son. The son had purchased a boat and left Sandwich but had experienced engine failure and advised his father that he would wait for low water, ground the boat and walk across the mud flats to purchase some gearbox oil. Following this, ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised, and ILB towed "Rebecca Louise" in to Ramsgate Harbour.


10 - 03/04/08 Fishing Vessel "Fair Trial"

Launched at 15:52 hrs and returned from service at 16:21 hrs.
Service Area: NE of Channel Entrance, 1.9 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind E force 3, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The local fishing vessel "Fair Trial" with one person called the Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance after getting a fishing net foul of his propeller. No other vessels were in the area and an ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. ILB towed "Fair Trial" in to Ramsgate.


09 - 25/03/08 Investigation of a vehicle in the water

Launched at 14:05 hrs and returned from service at 14:23 hrs.
Service Area: Off Victoria Parade Slipway, 0.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WNW force 4, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to investigate a report of a vehicle in the water off the Victoria Parade Slipway. On scene the vehicle appeared to be abandoned, with no persons in the area. Meanwhile, HMCG enquiries had discovered the vehicle had been there for some hours and that police were aware. ILB returned to station.


08 - 06/03/08 Unnamed "Motor Boat"

Launched at 15:57 hrs and returned from service at 18:34 hrs.
Service Area: Pegwell and offshore, 8 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind W force 3, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

Further to the previous ILB launch (Service 06) , HMCG requested launch of both lifeboats to search for motor boat, which had been reported as having left the river Stour. Search of Pegwell bay and offshore areas was carried out with no result. Search was called off at 17:50 after the boat was found on the beach near Cap Gris Nez. The French authorities were reported to have three men in custody.


06 - 06/03/08 Unnamed "Motor Boat"

Launched at 14:49 hrs and returned from service at 15:11 hrs.
Service Area: River Stour, 2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind W force 3, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

In response to a request from Surrey Police HMCG had been on the lookout for two 22 year old males whom a concerned relative had reported as intending to purchase a boat to go to France from the Dover area. Following this, a Sandwich boat yard contacted Ramsgate Port Control reporting the sale of a boat and in consequence HMCG requested launch of the ILB to locate a 12 ft tri-hull open motor boat with two men on board which had been purchased at Sandwich and last seen heading down river. The men had no experience and the boat no radio or flares. Tide was too low for the ILB to get up river and having searched the immediate area of Pegwell Bay the search was called off and ILB returned to station. (see further launches 07 and 08).
