73 - 21/12/07 Yacht "Windfell" 

B-765 Bob Turnbull  

Launched at 11:37 hrs and returned from service at 11:48 hrs.
Service Area: NE of No.5 buoy, 0.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind ESE force 2, Moderate Seas, Nil Swell, Fair Visibility.

The yacht "Windfell", with one person called HMCG for assistance following an engine failure shortly after departing from Ramsgate. HMCG requested launch of the ILB, which towed "Windfell" from North of No.5 buoy back in to Ramsgate.


72 - 20/12/07 Fishing Vessel "Audacious"

Launched at 11:35 hrs and returned from service at 12:09 hrs.
Service Area: Near East Brake, 2.2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind ENE force 3, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

The lifeboat Cox'n was advised that the local fishing vessel "Audacious", with one person, had suffered engine failure near the East Brake Buoy and was in need of assistance. ILB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. ILB took "Audacious" in tow in to the harbour.


70 - 19/12/07 Yacht "Windfell"

Launched at 18:24 hrs and returned from service at 18:34 hrs.
Service Area: In Ramsgate Western Terminal, 0.4 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SE force 4, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Fair Visibility.

The Yacht "Windfell", with one person entered the port and proceeded towards numbers 3/4 berths, not responding to VHF, light and audible signals from the Port Control. Port control alerted the Port Staff but in the meantime, "Windfell" had gone aground close to the rocks by number 5 berth. Simultaneous with a request from HMCG, ILB launch was initiated. ILB took "Windfell" in tow and into the Royal Harbour.

66 - 01/12/07 Search for a "Kitesurfer"

Launched at 13:21 hrs and returned from service at 13:41 hrs.
Service Area: East of B2 buoy, 1.3 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 6, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of both lifeboats following a report from a MoP of an unmanned surfboard adrift in Sandwich Bay. HMCG mobile unit had been unable to locate the owner of the board. AWB recovered a kite from a kite surfing rig. The lifeboats boats conducted a co-ordinated search, but with nothing found and no persons reported missing,  the search was called off and boats returned to station.


63 - 09/11/07 Report of "Windsurfers in difficulties"

Launched at 11:34 hrs and returned from service at 12:58 hrs.
Service Area: Joss Bay, 4 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NW force 8-9, Very Rough Seas, Moderate Swell, Very Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following receipt of a report that a surfer in Joss Bay had been swept away from the bay and last seen against the cliff to the east of the bay. In view of the weather and to provide  a lee and backup for the ILB, if needed, both boats were launched. After launching, the Cox'n consulted with HMCG and the Wattersham rescue helicopter was tasked to the incident (but cancelled prior to arrival). On the lifeboats' arrival it was found that two surfers had found their way to the concrete apron under the water pumping station, and were, temporarily, in a safe position. The Lifeboats stood off  the scene assisting with comm's and availability if needed, and at this stage a Police helicopter in the area patrolling for flood/damage surveillance was diverted to the incident. This helicopter stood off the cliff area and provided HMCG cliff rescue team with observational information. (The Police helicopter also gave advice by tannoy to other surfers in the water, and Police on the beach tried to advise surfers on shore that conditions were too hazardous). HMCG cliff rescue team recovered the two surfers from the apron and the third eventually made his own way to the base of the cliff and through the water to safety.


62 - 05/11/07 Report of "Red Flares"

Service Area: River Stour, 3 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WSW force 1, Calm Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report of the sighting of a red flare in the river Stour area. As instructed, ILB searched from the river mouth to the Sandwich Marina. With nothing found ILB returned to station.


55 - 15/09/07 Cabin Cruiser "Taz"

Launched at 20:42 hrs and returned from service at 20:59 hrs.
Service Area: River Stour, Near Sandwich Quay, 4.2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 1, Calm Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the cabin cruiser "Taz" with four persons, aground in the river Stour. ILB went up river but due to the state of the tide, could not get close to the stranded vessel. In view of there being children on "Taz" it was considered that awaiting the rise of tide would not be advisable and so the XP class lifeboat XP-28 was taken from the AWB and transported, with crew, to the Sandwich Town Quay to launch. "Taz" was located and XP-28 pulled her clear of the ground and then towed her to the Town Quay, the lifeboat proceeding stern first, towing from the bow. With the casualty secure, the lifeboat was recovered, crew and boat returning to the boathouse at 22:46 hrs.


54 - 14/09/07 Yacht "Xhosa"

Service Area: Near No.1 Buoy, 0.8 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind W force 2, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

The yacht "Xhosa", with three persons called the port control requesting assistance after suffering engine failure off the harbour entrance. ILB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. Unable to sail into the strong northeasterly tide, "Xhosa" was carried out to No.1 buoy, where ILB took her in tow into Ramsgate.


53 - 12/09/07 Fishing Vessel "Renown"

Launched at 20:46 hrs and returned from service at 21:04 hrs.
Service Area: Pegwell Bay, 2.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 2, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Very Good Visibility.

Following a 999 call from a MoP HMCG requested launch of the ILB to investigate a fishing vessel apparently aground and showing no activity in Pegwell Bay. On scene, ILB found the cockle boat "Renown" awaiting the tide to leave the area. Having ascertained that all was well, ILB returned to station. Call logged as false alarm with good intent.


52 - 11/09/07 Yacht "Corto Maltese"

Launched at 03:54 hrs and returned from service at 04:03 hrs.
Service Area: Royal Harbour Entrance, 0.2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NW force 4, Moderate Seas, Moderate Swell, Very Good Visibility.

The yacht "Corto Maltese" with three persons struck the sandbank at the entrance to the Royal Harbour, whilst entering the port. The Port Control observed that the yacht was having difficulty, being pushed onto the bank by the wind and also a moderate swell. With the yacht rolling heavily against the bank and ILB launch was initiated. The ILB passed a tow and pulled the yacht clear into deep water.


51 - 11/09/07 Assistance of "a swimmer"

Launched at 17:36 hrs and returned from service at 17:44 hrs.
Service Area: In Royal Harbour, 0.1 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind N force 2, Calm Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

Police had been called to the harbour to deal with an abusive man on the East Pier. As Police approached the man he jumped into the water off the Dover Steps, in front of the local fishing vessel "Solitaire", who advised Port Control.  Harbour Staff  threw a lifebuoy, which the swimmer ignored, and an ILB launch was then initiated. ILB got the swimmer on board and approached Dover Steps to land him, but due to the state of tide, this was not possible. However, a Police Officer jumped into the ILB and arrested the man as the lifeboat returned to the boathouse.


50 - 02/09/07 Yacht "Issonian" 

B-765 Bob Turnbull  

Launched at 01:37 hrs and returned from service at 02:52 hrs.
Service Area: S of the Gull Buoy, 4.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind W force 2, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

The local yacht "Issonian", with two persons, had been aground on the Goodwin Knoll. When she re floated on the tide she had steering problems due to damaged rudder. "Issonian" called HMCG asking for assistance, and ILB launch was requested. ILB took "Issonian" in tow back in to Ramsgate.


47 - 25/08/07 Yacht "Oxygene"

Launched at 18:16 hrs and returned from service at 19:44 hrs.
Service Area: North Sands Head, 5.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 3, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Fair Visibility.

Further to service number 46, both lifeboats launched as planned on the rising tide. Line was put on board "Oxygene" and AWB held her into the tide as she refloated. AWB towed "Oxygene" in to Ramsgate.


46 - 25/08/07 Yacht "Oxygene"

Launched at 16:24 hrs and returned from service at 17:17 hrs.
Service Area: North Sands Head, 5.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind S force 2, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to investigate a report of a yacht aground on the North Sands Head. ILB found the yacht "Oxygene", with four persons high and dry, but requesting no assistance and awaiting re-floating. ILB returned to station and in view of the yacht's situation it was decided that both boats would attend her on re floating when the tide rose.


45 - 12/08/07 Search for "Jetskier"

Launched at 19:33 hrs and returned from service at 19:53 hrs.
Service Area: Sandwich Bay, miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 4, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

A local diving boat found an unmanned jetski circling, with engine running. HMCG were advised and Walmer and Ramsgate Lifeboats were requested to launch for search. Shortly afterwards HMCG found the jetskier at the launch site at the Western Undercliff, and the search was called off. On returning to station, the AWB sighted a 4x4 vehicle stuck in the mud on the north side of the Stour entrance, with two persons in it. AWB stood by whilst HMCG contacted the persons and it was found that they had driven the vehicle down in an attempt to recover the jetski. With night falling and tide rising, rescue helicopter 125 was tasked whilst HMCG tried to persuade the two persons to leave the vehicle. Eventually the men left the vehicle and the helicopter dropped a marker buoy over the obstruction. All units stood down.


42 - 08/08/07 Report of "Red Flares"

Service Area: Pegwell Bay, 1.7 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NNE force 3, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from a pilot boat of red flares seen in Pegwell Bay. In company with Walmer Lifeboat ILB searched the area, nothing being found.


40 - 04/08/07 Assistance of Two Children cut off by tide

Service Area: East Bank of river Stour, 3.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SSW force 4, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Very Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to assist two youths trapped on the east bank of the river Stour. ILB took the youngsters and their bikes on board and landed them at Ramsgate.


39 - 29/07/07 Yacht "Angela Dawn" 

B-765 Bob Turnbull  

Launched at 10:20 hrs and returned from service at 10:43 hrs.
Service Area: Ramsgate Approach Channel, 0.9 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NW force 5, Moderate Seas, Moderate Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Angela Dawn", with two persons, called the Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance after suffering engine failure just outside the harbour. ILB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. ILB towed "Angela Dawn" back in to Ramsgate.


38 - 24/07/07 Yacht "Prinz Eugen" 

B-765 Bob Turnbull  

Launched at 21:24 hrs and returned from service at 21:29 hrs.
Service Area: North of approach channel, 0.74 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 3, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The single crew member of the yacht "Prinz Eugen" sailed from Ramsgate and appeared to the port control to be having difficulty in navigating. Subsequent communication with the yacht seemed to show uncertainty on behalf of the person on board. Shortly afterwards HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the "Prinz Eugen" following a 999 call from relatives of the person on board who thought that he was not safe to be at sea single handed. ILB launched and by tact and diplomacy managed to persuade the yacht to return to port. ILB escorted "Prinz Eugen" in to Ramsgate and once inside towed the yacht to a safe berth. Having seen all was well with the person on "Prinz Eugen" ILB returned to station.


37 - 24/07/07 Small Power Boat "Sunsport"

Launched at 15:08 hrs and returned from service at 15:15 hrs.
Service Area: Off South Breakwater, 0.42 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 5, Moderate Seas, Moderate Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the power boat "Sunsport" with three persons. "Sunsport" had requested assistance following engine failure and taking water. ILB towed "Sunsport" in to Ramsgate.


36 - 19/07/07 Yacht "Georgia"

Service Area: SE of Port, 1.2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 1, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Georgia", with three persons, called the port control requesting assistance after having engine failure and being becalmed off the port.  ILB launch was initiated and HMCG advised.  ILB towed "Georgia" in to Ramsgate.


35 - 12/07/07 Yacht "Trimley Maid"

Launched at 22:59 hrs and returned from service at 23:36 hrs.
Service Area: Main Beach, 1.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WSW force 2, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Trimley Maid", with two persons, called the port control requesting assistance after having engine failure whilst north of the No3 channel buoy. "Trimley Maid" anchored to the north of the channel. ILB launch was initiated, with HMCG being advised. ILB towed "Trimley Maid" in to Ramsgate.


33 - 08/07/07 Tender to yacht "Mary Patten" 

B-765 Bob Turnbull  

Launched at 17:24 hrs and returned from service at 17:47 hrs.
Service Area: South of the Port, 0.6 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SSW force 4, Moderate Seas, Moderate Swell, Very Good Visibility.

The Port Control observed a small boat, with one person, being rowed out to the yacht "Mary Patten", anchored off the harbour. It appeared that the person was tired and having trouble in the adverse conditions.  ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. ILB gave assistance to the rower to get back on board his yacht.


32 - 06/07/07 Yacht "Mary Patten" 

B-765 Bob Turnbull  

Launched at 09:53 hrs and returned from service at 09:59 hrs.
Service Area: South of the Port, 0.8 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WSW force 6, Rough Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Mary Patten" had anchored off the port on the 4th July. On the 6th, there had been no observed activity on the yacht for some time and in worsening weather, the DLA initiated launch of the ILB to check that all was well. ILB crew found the sole person on the "Mary Patten" well and happy with his situation. ILB returned to station.


27 - 18/06/07 Motor Yacht "Aretousa" 

B-765 Bob Turnbull  

Launched at 15:00 hrs and returned from service at 16:21 hrs.
Service Area: Near Gull Buoy, 4.9 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SSW force 6, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB, the AWB being at sea on service - (Station Service number 26/07), to the motor yacht "Aretousa", with two persons, making water near the Gull Buoy. ILB launched and the AWB diverted from service to this incident. On arrival, AWB found that "Aretousa" was experiencing water ingress only when the engine was running. Having seen all secure, the AWB remained on scene until the ILB arrived. ILB towed "Aretousa" in to Ramsgate. AWB returned to the barge "Balestra" (Service Number 26/07)


25 - 10/06/07 Report of "Persons Cut off by the Tide" 

B-765 Bob Turnbull  

Launched at 20:50 hrs and returned from service at 21:20 hrs.
Service Area: Stone Bay, 2.3 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 3, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from MoP of two persons cut off by the tide at Stone Bay. ILB proceeded to area but after searching nothing was found. Search called off, logged as false alarm with good intent.


23 - 03/06/07 Yacht "Vanna" 

B-765 Bob Turnbull  

Launched at 22:32 hrs and returned from service at 00:12 hrs.
Service Area: Stone Bay, 2.3 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind N'LY force 2, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

Following a call from a MoP, HMCG advised that the yacht "Vanna", with four persons, was aground at Stone Bay. Yacht was high and dry and HMCG requested lifeboat to stand by when she re floated. Coxn visited scene to asses situation, and launches of both boats were planned for when the tide rose. On the rising tide, ILB approached the casualty and connected a tow tine. Two lifeboat crew were put aboard the yacht to assist in raising her anchor. As the yacht floated, the tow was transferred to the AWB and the anchor was raised. After inspections for damage (none found) "Vanna" was towed in to Ramsgate.

22 - 02/06/07 Motor Yacht "Hot Property"

Service Area: Off Broadstairs, 2.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 4, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

The motor yacht "Hot Property", with six persons, called Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance after suffering engine failure off Broadstairs. ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. ILB towed "Hot Property" in to Ramsgate.


19 - 30/05/07 Search for an "upturned kayak"

Launched at 11:10 hrs and returned from service at 11:51 hrs.
Service Area: Off Broadstairs, 2.2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind S X E force 6, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a report from a MoP of a possible upturned kayak off Broadstairs. ILB, along with HMCG Aircraft, the yacht "Pilgrim" and mfv "Cristobal" searched but nothing was found. False alarm with good intent.


17 - 23/05/07 Motor boat "Bolitho"

Launched at 16:41 hrs and returned from service at 17:13 hrs.
Service Area: Off Dumpton Gap, 2.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind CALM force, Calm Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

Port Control received a mobile telephone call from the angling boat "Bolitho", at anchor and broken down off Dumpton Gap with two persons on board. After referring to HMCG an ILB launch was initiated. ILB towed "Bolitho" in to Ramsgate.


16 - 19/05/07 Yacht "Half Moon"

Launched at 08:41 hrs and returned from service at 09:48 hrs.
Service Area: Near S Brake Buoy, 4.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WSW force 6, Rough Seas, Moderate Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the yacht "Half Moon" with two persons on board, which had lost its rudder near the South Brake buoy. ILB launched and towed "Half Moon" in to Ramsgate.


15 - 19/05/07 Yacht "Ocean Cavalier" 

B-765 Bob Turnbull  

Launched at 08:18 hrs and returned from service at 08:37 hrs.
Service Area: Cross Ledge, 1.6 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WSW force 6, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB to the yacht "Ocean Cavalier", aground on the Cross Ledge with three persons on board. ILB put a line onto "Ocean Cavalier" and towed her off the ground. After ascertaining nil damage, the yacht continued her passage to Dunkirk.


12 - 14/05/07 Motor Yacht "Hot Property"

Launched at 14:45 hrs and returned from service at 15:10 hrs.
Service Area: Quern Bank, 0.7 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NW force 4, Moderate Seas, Moderate Swell, Fair Visibility.

The motor cruiser "Hot Property", with two persons, called the port control requesting assistance after suffering engine failure and drifting over the Quern Bank. ILB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. ILB towed "Hot Property" in to Ramsgate.


11 - 06/05/07 Yacht "Jolly Lady" 

B-765 Bob Turnbull  

Launched at 13:28 hrs and returned from service at 13:54 hrs.
Service Area: Off Ramsgate Main Beach, 0.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind W force 6, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

The yacht "Jolly Lady" experienced engine failure shortly after sailing single handed from Ramsgate. "Jolly Lady" anchored and called the port control requesting assistance as her anchor was not holding. ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised, and ILB towed "Jolly Lady" back in to Ramsgate.


07 - 10/04/07 Small Open Boat "Rebecca"

Launched at 01:58 hrs and returned from service at 02:25 hrs.
Service Area: Shellness, 2.2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WNW force 2, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

The open boat "Rebecca", with three persons, called the Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance after finding she had no fuel. ILB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. ILB towed "Rebecca" in to Ramsgate. It transpired that "Rebecca" had been aground in the river entrance since the afternoon of the 9th April, and had only discovered she was out of fuel upon her re-floating.


06 - 09/04/07 Yacht "Tien Mou"

Launched at 18:09 hrs and returned from service at 18:51 hrs.
Service Area: 0.8 miles east of Broadstairs, 2.1 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 1, Calm Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Tien Mou", with two persons called the port control requesting assistance after becoming becalmed off Broadstairs with engine failure. ILB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. ILB towed "Tien Mou" in to Ramsgate.


03 - 21/02/07 Fishing Boat "Audacious"

Service Area: Sandwich Bay, 1.5 miles from Station.

The local fishing vessel "Audacious", with one person, called the port control requesting assistance after suffering a fouled propeller. ILB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. ILB towed "Audacious" in to Ramsgate.


02 - 13/02/07 Report of a Person in the water inside East Pier

B-765 Bob Turnbull

Launched at 17:29 hrs and returned from service at 17:29 hrs.
Service Area: In Harbour, 00 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WSW force 3, Calm Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

Port Control Officer initiated ILB launch when harbour staff observed a man jump into the water from the end of the East Pier, under the port control office. Shortly afterwards an ambulance arrived. Crew mustered but stood down as the person was recovered by the workboat "Bumble", which had arrived on scene as the ILB launched. Man landed to ambulance at boathouse.
