55  -   26/07/10  angling boat  ''Excel 2''

Launched at 17:08 hrs and returned from service at 17:40 hrs.
Service Area: Off Broadstairs Harbour, 2.2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind E force 3, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Very Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the local angling boat "Excel 2" with 6 persons on board and disabled by engine failure off Broadstairs Harbour. On scene AWB found "Excel 2" drifting and trying to re-start her engine. AWB towed "Excel 2" in to Ramsgate Harbour.


54  -   25/07/10  yacht  ''Moonlight Shadow''

Launched at 20:45 hrs and returned from service at 23:50 hrs.
Service Area: North Goodwin Sands, 4.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind S force 3, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Very Good Visibility.

Planned launch following services 51 & 52  to the yacht "Moonlight Shadow" aground on the North Sands Head. ILB transferred a tow to the "Moonlight Shadow" and one ILB crew was placed on board the casualty. As the tide rose the AWB put weight on the tow and eventually the yacht came clear of the sands. "Moonlight Shadow" was towed in to the Ramsgate outer harbour and  the tow then released. "Moonlight Shadow" made her own way in to the Royal Harbour, now with two lifeboat crew on board assisting.

Service Area: North Goodwin Sands, 4.5 miles from Station.

The yacht "Moonlight Shadow" called port control by mobile as she could not receive on VHF, requesting assistance after grounding on the North Sands Head. HMCG were advised and the Walmer Lifeboat, then on exercise , was diverted to the incident. Walmer stood by and at 17:20 HMCG requested launch of the Ramsgate ILB to relieve the Walmer Lifeboat. On scene the yacht was fully aground and ILB decided that persons- one lady, two youngsters and a baby should be taken off, by which time AWB had been launched. ILB transferred  the persons to the AWB and both lifeboats returned to station, leaving one adult man on board the casualty. A launch was planned to recover the yacht on the rising tide later (see services 53 & 54)

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the yacht "Rubicon" adrift with a fouled propeller and with insufficient wind to sail clear of the traffic lanes. AWB took "Rubicon" in tow in to Ramsgate Harbour.

Service Area: Near Downs Buoy, 4.9 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WSW force 6, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Saje" with three persons on board called the Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance after losing her rudder near the Downs Buoy. HMCG were advised and AWB launch initiated. AWB towed "Saje" in to Ramsgate Harbour.


43  -   16/07/10  yacht  ''Irish Lady''

Launched at 12:59 hrs and returned from service at 13:57 hrs.
Service Area: Goodwin Sands, 4.7 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SSW force 6, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the yacht "Irish Lady" aground on the east side of the north Goodwin Sands. Both lifeboats were launched. As lifeboats neared the scene the casualty advised that they had driven across clear of the sands and were heading south. On scene it was found that "Irish Lady" was in the bight of the sands (the "lagoon") and was heading for the weather side of the sands to the south. ILB came across the sands from the east and the AWB came up into the lagoon from the south west. An ILB crew member was put on board "Irish Lady" to check the vessel and assist in communication. The yacht was guided clear of the sands, AWB then returning to station whilst ILB escorted "Irish Lady" in to Ramsgate Harbour.


39  -   02/07/10  cabin cruiser  ''Sophia''

Service Area: Off North Foreland, 3.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SSE force 5, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

The skipper of the cabin cruiser "Sophia", with two persons on board, called the boathouse by mobile telephone and  requested assistance as they could not start her engines. HMCG were advised and AWB launched. On scene AWB found "Sophia" adrift and with flat batteries, unable to start engines. AWB took "Sophia" in tow in to Ramsgate.


35  -   11/06/10  fishing vessel  ''Anna Louise''

Service Area: Pegwell Bay near B2, 1.8 miles from Station.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the local fishing vessel "Anna Louise" with three persons on board and immobilised in Pegwell Bay by a broken fuel pipe. On scene AWB found "Anna Louise" at anchor, unable to make repairs. AWB took "Anna Louise" in tow in to Ramsgate Harbour.


34  -   11/06/10  yacht  ''Sylfisk''

Launched at 03:14 hrs and returned from service at 08:30 hrs.
Service Area: East of Kentish Knock near Sunk SW, 22 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind N force 3, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Poor Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the yacht "Sylfisk" with five persons on board. "Sylfisk" had asked for help, giving a position near the Sunk SW buoy, as she was suffering electrical and steering failure. Shortly after the initial contact HMCG lost communication with the casualty. On scene, in fog, AWB commenced a search pattern which was pursued for two hours at which time (06:20) "Sylfisk" was located by HMS "Severn" near the NE Goodwin, some 20 miles south of the search area. AWB proceeded south and took "Sylfisk" in tow off the North Sands Head (at 07:26 hrs)


33  -   04/06/10  search for  a missing diver

Service Area: NW Thanet Windfarm, 7.9 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 3, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB following a report of a missing diver from the dive boat "Black Cat". Cox'n ordered the launch of the ILB as well. Both lifeboats proceeded to the search area to the NW of the Thanet Offshore Windfarm, where a pilot boat and three windfarm crew vessels had commenced a search. Helicopter Rescue 125 had also been tasked. At 19:14 hrs the helicopter reported sighting the diver in the water and at 19:24 the search was called off, lifeboats returning to station. At 19:30 the helicopter had lifted the diver from the water and was in flight to Manston.


31  -   03/06/10  yacht  ''Old Possum''

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the yacht "Old Possum" with one person on board. "Old Possum" was disabled by fishing nets fouling her propeller. On scene AWB found "Old Possum" adrift with heavy nets around her stern. "Old Possum" was towed in to Ramsgate Harbour Authority's boat hoist.

AWB escorting Dunkirk Little Ships from Dunkirk to Ramsgate. The motor boat "Mary Scott" with five persons on board requested assistance when her engine overheated and she suffered intermittent propeller vibrations. AWB took "Mary Scott" in tow in to Ramsgate on to the Western Hard.


28  -   01/06/10  motor boat  ''MB278''

Service Area: North of Dunkirk Passe de L'Ouest, 28.6 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind Calm, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

AWB escorting Dunkirk Little Ships from Dunkirk to Ramsgate. The motor boat MB278 requested assistance to an injured crew member on board. MB278 had caught a lobster pot with her propeller and one of her crew had entered the water with a knife to cut away the pot line. In the process he had suffered a cut hand and a cut leg from the knife and from the propeller's rope cutters. The man was taken on board the AWB, given first aid, dry clothes and a warm drink. Once fully recovered, he returned to MB278 which continued passage. AWB resumed escort duty.


26  -   31/05/10  guard vessel  ''Gitte''

Launched at 18:50 hrs and returned from service at 20:15 hrs.
Service Area: No.1 Approach channel buoy, 1.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 2, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

Thanet Wind farm Control advised that the guard vessel "Gitte" with six persons on board had suffered a battery explosion and consequent engine room fire whilst on patrol off the Thanet Wind farm. "Gitte" was under tow towards Ramsgate by the crew vessel "Waterfall" and requested assistance. AWB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. Cox'n instructed the launch of the ILB in addition as at the time the extent of the situation was unknown. AWB met "Waterfall" off the entrance to the Ramsgate Approach Channel and took over the tow, ILB returning to station once the tow was secure. "Gitte" was taken in to berth at No.1 linkspan where the fire brigade were waiting.


25  -   29/05/10  cruise liner  ''Arcadia''

Service Area: North East Goodwin, 5.5 miles from Station.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the cruise liner "Arcadia" bound Norway to Southampton. A passenger on board had suffered a suspected heart attack and required evacuation to hospital. AWB met "Arcadia" at the N E Goodwin and took the passenger, along with a ship's nurse, on board and returned to meet an ambulance in Ramsgate Harbour.


24  -   27/05/10  motor boat  ''Anne''

AWB escorting Dunkirk Little Ships from Ramsgate to Dunkirk. The motor boat "Anne" with 8 persons on board requested assistance after her stern drive failed whilst entering Dunkirk outer harbour. AWB secured "Anne" alongside and took her into the outer harbour, through the locks and into her inner harbour berth.


23  -   27/05/10  motor boat  ''Mary Scott''

Service Area: Ramsgate RA Buoy, 2.9 miles from Station.

AWB escorting Dunkirk Little Ships from Ramsgate to Dunkirk. The motor boat "Mary Scott" with seven persons on board requested assistance as her engine was overheating. AWB took "Mary Scott" in tow whilst repairs were attempted, but these were not successful and AWB towed the vessel in to the entrance at Dunkirk. Tow was released then so that "Mary Scott" could enter under her own power.


17  -   18/05/10  report of  flares

Service Area: Near Drillstone, 12.3 miles from Station.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB following a report from workers near the Thanet Offshore Windfarm of orange flares falling from the sky to the south end of the windfarm. AWB proceeded to the Drillstone buoy and searched to the SW whilst the guard vessel "Gitte" and the pilot vessel "Estuary Warden" searched from the west of the windfarm towards the SE. In calm weather and excellent clear visibility, nothing was found. AWB returned to station.


15  -   15/05/10  sloop  ''Narnia''

Service Area: Nr NE Spit, 7.6 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NW force 4, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Narnia" called the Ramsgate Port Control requesting assistance after suffering engine failure 8 miles off Ramsgate. "Narnia", with two persons on board, said she could not make way against the tidal current in the prevailing light wind. AWB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. On scene AWB found "Narnia" under sail and making a very slow speed. AWB took "Narnia" in tow in to Ramsgate Harbour.


14  -   13/05/10  yacht  ''Lof Pour Lof''

propeller off the Falls Bank. AWB took"Lof Pour Lof" in tow in to Ramsgate Harbour.


13  -   09/05/10  yacht  ''Papillon''

Service Area: NW of the Broadstairs Knoll, 2.7 miles from Station.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the yacht "Papillon", to the NW of the Broadstairs Knoll. "Papillon", with five persons on board had suffered engine failure and although under sail was not able to sail in to the Ramsgate Approach channel and the harbour. AWB took "Papillon" in tow in to Ramsgate Harbour.


12  -   01/05/10  Sail Training Brig  ''Caroline Allen''

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the small square rigged sail training brig "Caroline Allen", with 4 persons on board, just east of the Ramsgate approach channel. "Caroline Allen" had suffered engine failure and could not sail into the harbour. AWB took "Caroline Allen" in tow in to Ramsgate Harbour.


10  -   21/04/10  medical evacuation  of a person

Service Area: Thanet Windfarm, 9.9 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind E force 1, Calm Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB for a medivac of a person on the substation rig of the Thanet Offshore Windfarm. AWB launched and whilst en route the options for the evacuation of the man, suffering severe abdominal pain, were discussed. The man was taken from the rig on to the crew boat "Sea Beaver" which headed to Ramsgate and rendezvoused with the AWB. Two lifeboat crew were put on board "Sea Beaver" to help with monitoring the sick person. "Sea Beaver" with AWB accompanying, proceeded to No1 berth and landed person to awaiting ambulance.


09  -   13/04/10  yacht  ''Alexander Fair''

Service Area: Nr Broadstairs Knoll, 3.4 miles from Station.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the yacht "Alexander Fair" with engine failure and unable to make headway under sail, in the vicinity of the Broadstairs Knoll. AWB took "Alexander Fair" in tow in to Ramsgate.


08  -   10/04/10  fishing vessel  ''Ocean Breeze''

Service Area: Near Broadstairs Knoll, 2.1 miles from Station.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the fishing vessel "Ocean Breeze" disabled by engine failure near the Broadstairs Knoll and with three persons on board. AWB launched and took "Ocean Breeze" in tow in to Ramsgate Harbour.


07  -   23/03/10  report of  the sighting of a liferaft

Launched at 14:16 hrs and returned from service at 19:31 hrs.
Service Area: Near Mid Falls, 12.6 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind S force 1, Calm Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB following a report from a merchant vessel of a liferaft casing adrift near the Mid Falls Buoy. On scene AWB commenced a search pattern as instructed by HMCG. At about 17:30 the AWB located and took on board  a 16 man liferaft, complete and undeployed. From the markings on the liferaft HMCG were able to trace it's ownership and confirm that it had possibly been lost overboard  from a French trawler on the 16th March. HMCG then instructed (from 18:00) that search should continue whilst the ownership was confirmed. At 19:00 with nothing found and with darkness approaching, search was called off  and AWB returned to station.


06  -   10/03/10  fishing vessel  ''Rebecca''

Launched at 14:46 hrs and returned from service at 15:50 hrs.
Service Area: Near Elbow, 4.9 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NNE force 5, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The local fishing vessel "Rebecca", with one person telephoned the lifeboat station requesting assistance after having steering failure near the Elbow Buoy. AWB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. On scene AWB found "Rebecca" able to make way but unable to steer. "Rebecca" was taken in tow in to Ramsgate Harbour.


04  -   28/02/10  landing of an ill seaman

Launched at 23:09 hrs and returned from service at 23:32 hrs.
Service Area: Near East Brake buoy, 2.12 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind W force 4, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

Thanet Offshore Windfarm (TOW) Control had called the port control advising that the tug "Bever" was en route to Ramsgate with a crew member from "MPI Resolution" who was suffering from a suspected cardiac problem and asked for priority entering the harbour. Later, as "Bever" was approaching the port TOW control asked if a lifeboat could launch to expedite the landing of the casualty person. AWB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. On scene AWB found "Bever" near the East Brake Buoy making 8 knots towards the port. The casualty person was able to walk and so was transferred to the AWB. AWB proceeded to No.1 berth, where an ambulance was waiting, lifeboat crew administering first aid treatment prior to arrival. Casualty person was landed  to ambulance.


01  -   03/01/10  yacht  ''Liquid Fusion''

Service Area: Near Thanet West windfarm buoy, 9.1 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind E force 2, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the yacht "Liquid Fusion", with 6 persons on board, broken down just south of the Thanet West windfarm buoy and with insufficient wind to sail against prevailing tidal stream. The windfarm guardship "Brocklesby" had responded to the request for help and had put a line on board "Liquid Fusion" to await the arrival of the lifeboat. On scene the AWB took over the tow from "Brocklesby" and towed "Liquid Fusion" in to Ramsgate Harbour.
