01 - 04/01/06 Report of a "Body"

Launched at 09:25 hrs and returned from service at 13:30 hrs.
Service Area: Near F3 Buoy, 23.3 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 3, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

Following the report of a human body in the water near the F3 buoy, from a passing merchant ship, HMCG requested launch of the AWB. On arrival on scene the AWB carried out a thorough search pattern, but nothing was found. AWB returned to station.

04 - 05/02/06 Small motor boat "Seeka"

Service Area: Under North Foreland, 3.2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NW force 2, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Poor Visibility.

The motor boat "Seeka", with three persons, called the port control by mobile telephone to request assistance after suffering engine and VHF failure whilst off North Foreland. AWB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. "Seeka" had given an approximate position as visibility was falling rapidly. AWB located the casualty after a short search, and took her in tow to Ramsgate.


05 - 10/02/06 Report of "Red Flares"

Service Area: Pegwell Bay & River, miles from Station.
Weather: Wind N force 2, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to search in Pegwell Bay following a report of red flares being seen. As AWB proceeded, it was decided to launch the ILB as well, to search up the river Stour. Search was ceased when some spent flare tubes were found on shore. Incident classed as false alarm with malicious intent.


08 - 07/03/06 Local fishing vessel "Lavicca"

Service Area: North Brake, 2.4 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SSE force 5, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

The local fishing vessel "Lavicca", with one person, called the port control requesting assistance after suffering engine failure. With no other craft in the area an AWB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. AWB towed "Lavicca" in to Ramsgate.

10 - 02/04/06 Yacht "Ocean Cavalier"

Launched at 14:43 hrs and returned from service at 15:33 hrs.
Service Area: Off Port, 2.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SSW force 8, Rough Seas, Moderate Swell, Good Visibility.

The single handed yacht "Ocean Cavalier" called the Port Control by mobile telephone to advise of his approaching Ramsgate. The crew was unable to use VHF as he was busy in the cockpit in the worsening weather. Shortly afterwards, the port control observed "Ocean Cavalier" to be making no way against wind and tide, and after consulting with the Launching Authority, an AWB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. "Ocean Cavalier was towed in to Ramsgate.


11 - 02/04/06 The Yacht "Enchantress"

Service Area: Ramsgate Approach Channel, 0.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SSW force 8/9, Rough Seas, Moderate Swell, Good Visibility.

The port control observed the yacht "Enchantress", with two persons approaching the port. The yacht had entered the approach channel from the south, but once in the channel was making no headway against wind and tide. After consultation with the Launching Authority an AWB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. AWB Towed "Enchantress" in to Ramsgate.


12 - 07/04/06 Fishing Vessel "Progress"

Launched at 10:35 hrs and returned from service at 11:41 hrs.
Service Area: North of North Foreland, 5.6 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 1, Calm Seas, Nil Swell, Fair Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the fishing vessel "Progress", with two persons. "Progress" was north of North Foreland and disabled with fishing nets fouling her propeller. AWB towed "Progress" in to the boat hoist at Ramsgate Harbour.


13 - 29/04/06 Yacht "Guillemot"

Launched at 13:00 hrs and returned from service at 14:00 hrs.
Service Area: East of Broadstairs, 2.3 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind N force 3, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the yacht "Guillemot", with three persons, dismasted off Broadstairs. Yacht was immobilised unable to clear mast wreckage and one yacht crew had suffered a head injury in the incident. On scene, two AWB crew were put onto the yacht to assess the injury, render first aid and assist in clearing the wreckage. The injury to the yacht crew did not appear serious and AWB towed "Guillemot" in to Ramsgate where she was met by a para-medic.


14 - 29/04/06 Yacht "Guapa"

Service Area: East of Ramsgate, 10.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SE force 1, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the yacht "Guapa", disabled with engine failure and with two persons on board. AWB towed "Guapa" in to Ramsgate.


18 - 27/05/06 Yacht "Outlook II"

Launched at 21:18 hrs and returned from service at 22:17 hrs.
Service Area: North of North Foreland, 5.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind E force 2-3, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Outlook II", with four persons, called the port control to advise that she was north of Margate with engine failure and was making slow headway towards Ramsgate. "Outlook II" requested assistance entering Ramsgate Harbour. Later, "Outlook II" called HMCG to advise them of the situation and Coastguard then requested launch of the AWB to assist. AWB met "Outlook II" north of North Foreland and took her in tow to Ramsgate.


19 - 03/06/06 Yacht "Forga"

Launched at 10:17 hrs and returned from service at 11:26 hrs.
Service Area: Near NE Goodwin, 6.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind E force 2, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Forga", with two persons, called the Port Control requesting assistance following engine failure whilst about 6 miles east of Ramsgate, and with insufficient wind to sail.AWB launch was initiated and HMCG advised. AWB towed "Forga" in to Ramsgate.


20 - 03/06/06 Fishing Vessel "Excel III"

Service Area: East of North East Spit, 11.8 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 2, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the local fishing vessel "Excel III", with 5 persons, broken down with fractured engine mountings east of the North East Spit buoy. AWB took "Excel III" in tow to Ramsgate.


23 - 13/06/06 Yacht ''Moby Dick''

Launched at 11:44 hrs and returned from service at 12:59 hrs.
Service Area: East of North Sand Head, 6.9 nautical miles from Station
Weather: Wind NE force 4, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

The yacht "Moby Dick", with 3 persons, called the port control by mobile telephone requesting assistance after her propeller had been fouled by fishing nets. HMCG was advised and thereafter AWB launch was initiated. AWB towed "Moby Dick" in to Ramsgate to the port authority's travel hoist.


25 - 26/06/06 Yacht "Bacchus V"

Launched at 14:08 hrs and returned from service at 14:49 hrs.
Service Area: Near Broadstairs Knoll, 2.7 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind N force 5, Moderate Seas, Moderate Swell, Poor Visibility.

The Belgian yacht "Bacchus V", with three persons, called the port control requesting assistance after engine failure and with jammed sail. Incident was referred to HMCG who requested launch of the AWB. AWB towed "Bacchus V" in to Ramsgate.


28 - 06/07/06 Yacht "Almaric"

Service Area: North East of NE Goodwin, 8.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SSE force 4, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Nil Visibility.

The yacht "Armoric" with four persons called HMCG requesting assistance after losing her position in thick fog. HMCG requested launch of the AWB which, after locating the yacht in near zero visibility, towed her in to Ramsgate.


29 - 09/07/06 Yacht "Marksman"

Service Area: Cross Ledge, 1.6 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 6, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Marksman" with two persons, called the port control requesting assistance after grounding on the Cross Ledge. HMCG were advised and AWB was launched, with ILB launch following shortly, after the situation of the casualty became apparent. With a swell running over the banks and the tide falling, the ILB took the two crew off the casualty to await re-floating when the tide rose.


31 - 09/07/06 Yacht "Marksman"

Service Area: Cross Ledge, 1.6 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 6, Rough Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

Following earlier services, both lifeboats made a planned launch and stood by the casualty as the tide rose. ILB took the casualty in tow as she lifted on the tide and swell, and once clear of the bank transferred the tow to the AWB. "Marksman" was towed in to Ramsgate.


34 - 13/07/06 RIB "Windrider"

Launched at 10:36 hrs and returned from service at 11:12 hrs.
Service Area: North Sand Head, 3.9 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 5, Moderate Seas, Moderate Swell, Good Visibility.

Local fishing vessel "Sea Searcher" advised port control that the large RIB "Windrider" was in difficulties and aground on the the North Sand Head, "Windrider" broadcasting a "Mayday" signal immediately afterwards. Launch of both lifeboats was initiated and HMCG advised. On arrival it was found that the RIB had been closing the sands to take off several persons, including a film crew, when she had broached to in the swell on the sands, and swamped. The RIB skipper took all persons off the sands onto the swamped RIB, there being thirteen persons in total. ILB approached from the north but at first attempt could not get close and made a second approach from the south. A line was connected, but this parted and a second line was put on the RIB. ILB then towed the RIB clear of the sands until the AWB could get alongside and take all persons on board. AWB proceeded to Ramsgate with survivors and was met by an ambulance, one distressed person being taken to hospital as a precaution. ILB towed "Windrider" in to the harbour.


35 - 13/07/06 Fishing Vessel "Sea Searcher"

Service Area: East of Port, 2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 5, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

The fishing vessel "Sea Searcher", with two persons, was standing by the North Sands at the "Waverider" incident (see services 33, 34) when she suffered major engine failure. "Sea Searcher" was taken in tow by Walmer Lifeboat towards Ramsgate. Upon Ramsgate AWB landing survivors from "Waverider", HMCG requested she return to sea and take the tow from Walmer Lifeboat. "Sea Searcher" was towed in to Ramsgate.


37 - 14/07/06 Yacht "Mr Gee"

Launched at 03:51 hrs and returned from service at 05:47 hrs.
Service Area: NE of the Elbow, 7.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 7, Rough Seas, Moderate Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Mr Gee", with three persons, called the port control requesting assistance after becoming fast on a submerged object NE of the Elbow buoy and unable to start his engine. "Mr Gee" was also having problems with his main sail. After discussion with HMCG, the AWB was launched. As AWB proceeded, "Mr Gee" became free of the obstruction and managed to start his engine, at the same time being able to lower his main sail. AWB escorted "Mr Gee" in to Ramsgate Harbour.


39 - 19/07/06 Yacht "Jan van Gent"

Service Area: North Goodwin Sands, 4.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NNE force 2, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

The yacht "Jan van Gent", with 4 Persons, called the port control requesting assistance after grounding on the north Goodwin sands. The launch of both lifeboats was initiated and HMCG advised. On arrival it was found that "Jan van Gent" was aground on the falling tide. An attempt to tow the yacht off the ground was unsuccessful and in view of an adverse weather forecast, the casualty crew were taken off by the ILB and landed ashore by the AWB.


41 - 19/07/06 Yacht "Jan van Gent"

Service Area: North Goodwin Sands, 4.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 5, Slight Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

Both lifeboats launched to stand by the yacht "Jan van Gent" as she re floated on the rising tide. Casualty crew were returned to the yacht. ILB put a tow line onto the casualty and held her up into the tide as she re floated. Tow was transferred to the AWB and "Jan van Gent" towed in to Ramsgate.


43 - 19/07/06 Yacht "Sublime"

Service Area: Galloper, 34 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 4, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Fair Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the yacht "Sublime", with engine failure and experiencing weather stress in thunderstorms to the north east of Ramsgate. AWB launched but whilst proceeding it became apparent that the on passage relief Harwich Lifeboat 17-03 was closer to the casualty by about 40 minutes. HMCG diverted the passage lifeboat to the incident, transferred co-ordination to Thames Coastguard, and advised Ramsgate AWB to return to station.


47 - 29/07/06 Yacht "Jigsaw"

Service Area: Approach Channel, 0.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SSE force 5, Moderate Seas, Moderate Swell, Very Good Visibility.

The yacht "Jigsaw", with four persons, advised the port control that her engine was "smoking" and she was returning in to Ramsgate. As she passed number 5/6 buoys she advised that her engine had failed. The yacht started drifting towards the main beach at a rapid rate and an AWB launch was initiated, HMCG being advised. As the lifeboat launched, the Pilot Cutter "Estuary Warden" got a tow line onto "Jigsaw" and took her in tow in to Ramsgate, the AWB escorting.


49 - 31/07/06 Yacht "Sindoro"

Service Area: Near No.1 buoy, 1.4 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind force , Seas, Swell, Visibility.

The yacht "Sindoro", with two persons, called the port control with a PAN prefix message saying that she was in great trouble and needing assistance. The "Sindoro" was near the No. 1 buoy of the approach channel. An AWB launch was initiated, HMCG being informed. On scene the AWB found that the yacht was making no headway against a strong tide and adverse wind and needed assistance due to stress of weather. AWB took "Sindoro" in tow in to Ramsgate.


51 - 03/08/06 Angling Vessel"Fullbore IV"

Service Area: NE of the port, 6 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NW force 7, Rough Seas, Moderate Swell, Fair Visibility.

The angling vessel "Fullbore IV" with three persons called the port control requesting assistance after the vessel unable to stem water ingress. The launch of both lifeboats was initiated, HMCG being advised. On scene, the "Fullbore IV" had found that fishing nets had fouled her propeller and this had resulted in the stern gland being damaged. The crew had been able to minimize the water ingress with wedges so that vessel's pump could cope. AWB and ILB escorted "Fullbore IV" in to the Harbour Authority's boat hoist.


53 - 14/08/06 Yacht "Pennies from Heaven"

Launched at 13:31 hrs and returned from service at 18:44 hrs.
Service Area: Near F3 buoy, 22 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NW force 7, Rough Seas, Moderate Swell, Fair Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the yacht "Pennies from Heaven", with 5 persons, unable to sail and with engine failure at an original position about 30 miles NE of Ramsgate. Communications with the casualty revealed some confusion as to her position and eventually, using VHF / DF she was found near the F3 buoy. "Pennies from Heaven" was towed in to Ramsgate. It was found that the yacht had, in fact, run out of fuel.


57 - 20/08/06 Motor Boat "Jolly George"

Service Area: West of Broadstairs Knoll, 2.7 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WSW force 3, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the local fishing boat "Jolly George", with two persons, immobilised with engine failure near the Broadstairs Knoll. AWB towed "Jolly George" back in to Ramsgate.


59 - 26/08/06 Classic Sailing vessel "Kommandoren"

Launched at 13:13 hrs and returned from service at 14:46 hrs.
Service Area: East Goodwin, 7.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NW force 1, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Fair Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of both boats to the classic sailing vessel "Kommodoren", with six persons, following a "Mayday" call advising that the vessel was sinking. AWB and ILB transferred three lifeboat crew and a salvage pump to "Kommodoren" and took her in tow to Ramsgate.


65 - 20/09/06 Fishing Vessel "Chananne"

Launched at 07:38 hrs and returned from service at 07:43 hrs.
Service Area: Inside North Breakwater, 0.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind S force 5, Moderate Seas, Moderate Swell, Good Visibility.

The local fishing vessel " Phoenix" called the port control to relay a message from the fishing vessel "Chananne", which was taking water and in danger of sinking. "Chananne", with two persons, was under way, off the old marina. AWB launch was initiated. As AWB launched, "Chananne" rounded the northern breakwater with a heavy list to starboard. As the AWB came alongside "Chananne" and took off the two fishing boat crew, the casualty foundered inside and close to the breakwater.


66 - 22/09/06 Yacht "Snicker Snee"

Service Area: East Goodwin Light Vessel, 9.5 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 8, Rough Seas, Moderate Swell, Good Visibility.

Dover lifeboat was towing the yacht "Snicker Snee" to Dover, after the yacht had suffered engine failure. In view of the adverse weather the Dover Coxswain considered it unwise to attempt to tow the casualty into Dover harbour and after consultation with HMCG Ramsgate AWB launch was requested to take over the tow. AWB took over the tow some 9 miles off the port and towed "Snicker Snee" in to Ramsgate.


68 - 24/09/06 Yacht "Sirocco"

Service Area: East of the F2 Buoy, 21.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 1, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the yacht "Sirocco", with two persons, broken down and becalmed near the F2 buoy. AWB towed "Sirocco" in to Ramsgate.


71 - 15/10/06 Historic Motor Torpedo Boat "Canonero"

Launched at 15:46 hrs and returned from service at 19:03 hrs.
Service Area: Off Deal, 7 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind NE force 8, Very Rough Seas, Moderate Swell, Poor Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to the historic Motor Torpedo Boat "Canonero", in difficulties after loosing one engine and steerage in heavy seas off Deal. "Canonero", with three persons on board, was not in immediate danger, but in the prevailing weather conditions, HMCG considered lifeboat assistance to be prudent. On arrival at scene, it was decided that the AWB would take "Canonero" in tow to Dover, the weather making Ramsgate a much less favorable option. AWB towed the casualty in to Dover and then returned to station.


74 - 21/11/06 Motor Yacht "Sea Cloud"

Launched at 15:56 hrs and returned from service at 16:12 hrs.
Service Area: Pegwell Bay (Stour Entrance), 2.2 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WNW force 3, Moderate Seas, Low Swell, Very Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the ILB following a VHF "MAYDAY" call from the Motor Yacht "Sea Cloud" with two persons. "Sea Cloud" reported having lost her propeller, whilst under way in Pegwell Bay. On arrival, ILB found "Sea Cloud" aground, ILB connected a line and and towed "Sea Cloud" off the ground . Once afloat "Sea Cloud" was found to be taking water and AWB was launched to assist with her salvage pump. With the pump on board "Sea Cloud", she was taken in tow in to Ramsgate and lifted out on the Harbour Authority boat hoist.


76 - 07/12/06 Yacht "Icenic"

Service Area: Near RA Buoy, 3.0 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 8, Rough Seas, Low Swell, Good Visibility.

HMCG requested launch of the AWB to assist the yacht "Icenic", with four persons. "Icenic" had suffered engine failure near the RA buoy and was having difficulty in making headway towards Ramsgate in the worsening weather. AWB towed "Icenic" in to Ramsgate.


77 - 10/12/06 Fishing Vessel "Southern Star"

Launched at 09:06 hrs and returned from service at 09:15 hrs.
Service Area: Near South Breakwater, 0.3 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind WSW force 2, Slight Seas, Nil Swell, Very Good Visibility.

The local fishing vessel "Southern Star", with two crew, called the port control requesting assistance after suffering machinery failure just off the port. After investigating alternative tows it was decided to launch the AWB to assist. AWB towed "Southern Star" back in to Ramsgate.


78 - 11/12/06 RIB "Seacore"

Launched at 12:07 hrs and returned from service at 12:29 hrs.
Service Area: Dumpton Gap, 1.00 miles from Station.
Weather: Wind SW force 8, Rough Seas, Low Swell, Fair Visibility.

The RIB tender to jack-up "Seacore", with two persons, called the port control requesting assistance after suffering engine failure off Dumpton Gap. AWB launch was initiated with HMCG being advised. As AWB launched, the pilot vessel "Estuary Escort" put a line on the RIB and held it off the beach until the AWB arrived. AWB towed the RIB in to Ramsgate.
