HMCG requested immediate launch of a lifeboat and both boats were launched. The yacht had come up against the outside of the south breakwater and was beating against the stones, whilst the sole crew had climbed out onto the breakwater.

The ILB approached the breakwater from the turning circle and took the man off the stones. The yacht was by now taking severe damage and the cox'n feared that it might sink and become a submerged danger in the area. The ILB landed two crew onto the breakwater from the north side and these managed to get across the stones to board the yacht. The ILB then proceeded outside the harbour and, in a SW'ly force 8/9 wind and very rough seas closed the yacht, and passed a towline from the AWB. The "VENTURA" was then towed in to the harbour, the ILB bringing in the VENTURA's tender.
